What could it be? I havent really pinpointed the location of the noise, but I kind of think its from the front drivers side of my car, but honestly couldnt say.

Like title says, its a metal on metal scraping noise. It seems like something small scraping on metal, almost like a 'ringing', not a deep metal on metal noise. It only happens at 1.6-2krpms.

I'm not positive, cause I havent really looked into it, but i dont think it makes the noise when the clutch is pressed in.

Any ideas would be great. Thought it was the exhaust heat shield, but i took that off and it is still there. So I honestly couldn't say. Only thing that needs replaced up front (that i know of) is the brake pads, and rotors, cause they are way worn, so idk, maybe something scraping? But I don't see why it'd only happen at that rpm range. So yea, I just need ideas.

Is it in the engine bay or under the car?If its under the car its the catalytic shield, happens on 99% of the older nissan/infiniti models.A quick tac weld normally fixes the problem...

not exactly sure what the catalytic shield is, but i did take a heat shield off my exhaust a while back, and it came off where the headers connect to the exhaust piping, and down a ways. I assume thats what you meant, and that is already gone. So it cant be that.

Its the one right above the catalytic converter. You cant miss it. It's not the one for the header...
