messed up the thread on the front axel what are my options?

well my dad hit the axel wiht a hammer to take the knuckle out and the thread got messed up what can i do without buying a new one

Buy a Tap and Die set. though that would have to be pretty hefty die to fit that thread! maybe just measure it and gat a specialty one. I doubt a regualr store sold set will have anything to fit that!

Thats just how to fix it without replacing it. I never said its safe...

get a small angle metal file from your local hardware store...one that is more triangular one corner that is more narrow than the others. Then file the threads till they are close to matching the undamaged areas. this has worked for me a few times in the past when working on my Truck...check my profile
