I have another thread on the gen chat section but i was on my way to nashville when i had engine failure.

I was at WOT in 5th way passed 120 just at 5k and i decided to let off the throttle and as soon as i did, it started misfiring and i saw white smoke coming from the exhaust.

Pulled over, (mind you we have no tools, dumb mistake on my part) turn off the motor, pop the hood, and there's oil all over the valve cover, i automatically just shat my pants, thinking my motors gone and i'm a million miles from home.

I realized it was just my breather and i cleaned it up and started it, still sounds like an sti with exhaust, pull the plug wires one by one, #1, #3, #4 all make the motor hesitate, #2 does not, call the indiana state police to give us a ride to autozone to buy a spark plug and a stock injector and some tools

pull the sparkplug, it looks like it's been fused together at the tip, replace it and the injector, start it up, AFR's go down to normal, they were lean prior to the injector replacement, but the motor was still misfiring and white smoke was still there, i figured white smoke is coolant, but the car wasn't overheating or anything and it wasn't spilling or leaking anything. we pulled the spark plug from #2 again and it was soaked with oil.

At this point I called a friend to come tow my sorry *** home, it's no fun sitting on a 2 lane highway for 13 hours, with nothing to drink and nothing to eat, and one cell phone dead, and one on the way out, thank goodness i had a car charger that i drained the last of the battery to charge up.

So if someone would chime in with any ideas as i don't wanna pull it apart if i don't have to, im still waiting for my bank to call me back and let me know if the warranty i have is gonna work with the shop of my choosing...

sounds like you blew the rings on the #2 piston.. but if the smokes white, it could be the head gasket.. you should do a compression test.

Agreed,

Check compression and report. Oil on plugs could very well mean head gasket. If thats it then it's not much work, hopefully you caught it soon enough and you said it didn't over heat so you might be good.

Yea i plan on doing that, but i took the car to my friends house as he actually has space to work on, but as soon as i get the chance i will.

i was guessing it had something to do with the rings or either the piston itself is possibly cracked...but we'll never know till we take it apart, i did also think headgasket but i think the rings is more likely, i could be wrong

Bringing this thread back to life!

So i finally ran a compression test on my motor and i got pretty much 180 on #1, #3, and #4

#2, the one i knew that was messed up got nothing! it would not given me any indication it was going through a cycle...

So my brother thinks it might be the headgasket, if i'm lucky, but he said it's probably the rings or the piston that is messed up.

what do you guys think?

No compression means you blew that piston to hell...

Very odd that you would have such a drastic blow on just one cylinder, while the other three were fine.

You really dont have much of a choice, you have to tear the motor down and figure out whats up. When you do, i want PICS! ^^

being that you fused the spark plug together on that cylinder i bet that cylinder was running lean as hell and melted a hole in the piston. Even if you blew the ringlands to hell you usually get some kind of reading on the cylinder. Defintally hook us up with some pics when you get around to it.

Hmm thats a good point, i would pull your injectors and get them checked out and flow tested.
