messed up engine cover

i was painting my engine cover. had it almost done then i messed it up completely. whats the easiest way to remove all the paint (about 2-3 layers)

What kind of paint ... most labels will have info on how to clean up / remove dried paint.

Acetone may work as stated above ... you might try something like this as well:

Not sure if either will damage the engine cover in the process ...

Sand paper and some elbow grease, i would not want to be in your shoes!!!

gosh i dont envy you...feather down the edgeds of the messed up area using 1000 grit wet...get it smooth...and feather coat..sand again...ur trying to build up the boo boo...and hit it with a final coat over the peice....i alway end up doin a wet rub down with some stuff called rotten stone...its basically a finishing powder to get your surface super smooth...then my final final coat...itll be like glass

brake fluid will get the paint off but it might damage the plastic too.

first of all...new to the painting. had it perfect though until the clear coat. then wen it messed up and i tried to sand it smooth it just got worse. then i kept trying to remove layers and redo but it just got worse. lol. how much is a cover anyway?

how does it make sense that the engine cover for the 3.5 is less lolgood luck with the paint job next round!

Because the 2.5 cover is more intricate. It covers the intake plenum and outlines the runners individually. The 3.5 Engine cover only covers above the spark plugs and heads. It doesn't cover the intake plenum.

Sand it completely off. Go to your local automotive paint supplier store and buy some SEM black trim paint. Use that and it will look as if its brand new.
