Hi, Ive got an 07 Versa, with 8000 miles on it. I changed the oil to 5w 30 Mobil 1 Synthetic at around 6000 miles. I hear a few noises from the clutch when I shift, as well as the engine. When im shifting from 1st to 2nd, alot of times I hear this scrambled metal friction noise, like gears are breaking. Its the same sound you hear when you shift HALFWAY between gears 1 and 2, but let go of the clutch too early. However, this happens when i push the clutch ALL they way down and mainly when I drive the car in the morning. It is like the clutch disengages too early? Yes, I do let the car heat up. If I let Nissan take a look at it, will they charge me for inspection or is it all covered (including replacement of clutch).

Also, I dont know if all versas make this noise, but my engine makes a loud clicking noise that almost all cars make. I believe it comes from the alternator but the noise on my car is REALLY loud, I can hear it from the passenger seat.

Thanks alot!Matt

Your clutch should not be effected by changing to synthetic. You may have some other problem with the car. Most of the time the clutch is not covered under warranty, sometimes their is an exception to this. I switch my car to mobil 1 synthetic as well. I really didn't like the way the car drove and the oil came out filthier than mineral oil, so i switched back. I have used synthetic on previous cars and it felt great. This car felt worse. I'm sure alot of folks here have used synthetic and love it. May want to switch back and see how the car drives then, if not any better drive it to the dealer.

I'd take it to Nissan. On Versa #1, I had the clutch start slipping after less than 24 hours. turns out that there was a hydraulic switch component in the clutch system that tied into the cruise control that had issues.

But if you have a hydraulic leak or low hydraulic pressure, this could very well happen. And it would most DEFINITELY be covered by warranty, because even though a clutch is a "wear" or consumable item, the expected life span is MUCH longer than 8,000 miles.

I agree, get it checked out @ the dealer & have paperwork in the Nissan warranty system. This is in case you have to go back after the time/mileage expires. I know many people (with various car manufacturers) had to use this to "finally" get things covered under warranty, even after expiration because they had a problem IDENTIFIED before.

I hope this helps.
