I spent an hour messing with the grille finally...

Step 1. Buy some mesh.Step 2. Buy a spare grilleStep 3. Mark and cut mesh about 1/2 inch larger than grille opening.

Remove old grille, and install mesh grille.

It still needs some massaging, to get it to look perfect, but it looks cool.

Here is what it looks like. Don't bust my chops about the dirty car, or all the paint chips. The bumper wasn't completely cured, when I started commuting with it. I plant to repaint teh bumpers next spring.

Looks pretty good. Is there a way you can get it to be more recessed in? It reminds me of this grill:

From the side, a recessed grille would look like a hole in the front of the car.

If I cut out the original vertical bars, I could make it flush or even recessed. Just another hour with the cut-off wheel.

I would do another one, but the mesh I bought is about 2" too short for 2 grilles. I can buy the mesh in any size and pattern I want. The options are limitless.

If anyone wants one of these, send me your old grille, and I will make one for you.

I have the donor grille from Lola, but the chrome is kinda messed up a bit by the emblem. The original owner had all the emblems gold plated (it was cool back then). The gold is all worn and looking poor.

It only took me an hour to do this. The spare grille was $25 off of eBay, and the mesh was $35.00. Not bad for $60.00

Nice work! I am not feeling it, I guess because I think it needs the vertical element in the center. Too much mesh, I guess.

Well done, though.

Me, I'd find a way to put a belt buckle on it.

Seriously though, nice work Jeff.

Nice work Jeffy! You know what would top that off perfectly..... some type of LED display inside the mesh. Like an evil eye or something

I say paint the mesh flat black with good quality paint so it doesn't strip. Post more pics if you do this. If you really want to impress me, create a grill for the 90-93

I very briefly thought about a '94+ bumper cover on my '91, which would leave a gap of a couple inches between the lower edge of the hood and the top of the bumper cover. You'd have a small, thin grill, with the belt buckle hanging down in the middle. I just couldn't visualize it in a good way though. Too much potential to just look like a piece is missing. However, that would give you a grill on a 90-93.

The 94 bumper wont match up to the 90-93 fenders.

Looks sporty Jeff. I also think it would look better if it was a little more flush by cutting the bars out behind it, but it's nice work regardless!

Uhm..I honestly think the stock grill looks good. That or do a JDM grill. To me it looks like ricer chickenwire on cars that wish they had an FMIC. I can appreciate the work you put into it, but yah, to each his own for sure on this one...

What is "FMIC"?

I kinda modeled the grille after the custom 300C grilles, and the Jaguar turbo grilles.

I did a cool mod on Layla's grille a while back, and I thought it really turned out nice. I cut every other vertical slat out, to give it a more aggressive look.

Here is a shot of Layla's grille. I only took pictures of it at night.
