I heard the markets for islands are pretty good this time of year. hey, buy the island, and then make a big track for us to come race on.

car and driver still rated the valentine 1 as the best radar in 2002. My friend has one and its damn good. I have a k40. I like it alot, its really accurate and almost no false alarms. Supposibly least amount of false alarms from any radar detector, and 1 year ticket free warranty.

The Valentine was an excellent radar detector 10 years ago. It isn't anymore. Its Ka detection is extremely lackluster, and it's X band detection is mediocre at best. It also costs an arm and a leg.

Um...... Admittingly there are other radar detectors that are as good as the V1 now, and in some cases have some better features, but the V1 is STILL one of the best radar detectors on the market. You do realize that a V1 from 10 years ago is *not* the same as a brand new V1, don't you? I mean, they do update the thing pretty often.

Even the ones that a few years old (like mine), you can upgrade to the newest model for only $100. Much like getting a JWT ECU reprogrammed ;)

here in PA we don;t have radar anymore. it is a type of timing device that meausres the time you go form point a to point b and then calculates your speed .

you are correct . my neighber is a police officer and he was explaining it to me. I think he said they have to have it calibrated every day and then fill out paper work that it was calibrated correctly , if not , the "speeder" could go to traffic court and have his ticket revoked.

front or rear? rear is kind of hard, so use and impact gun. Front just use an impact, if you dont have one, just put a breaker bar on it.

This is what I meant by my post. I've never heard of that VASCAR system, but aside from radar and that, there is laser detection...some radar detectors feature laser detection too. So I don't know what you mean by saying they will be obsolete.

I don't have a radar detector because I don't really see the point..I've had ones that don't work all the time, so have my friends. Plus the biggest kicker is that by me cops don't even always use their radar...There have been many State Troopers who just sit and give out careless driving tickets for excessive speeding. I know detectors are useful, but I also feel they are a false sense of security in some cases. Plus I generally drive the speed limit.

Oh yeah, first thing I'm buying with my gobs of xmas money....a new car battery, mine just died and I'm stuck at school, awesome.:rolleyes

what really blows is when the cops dont have the laser on all the time and they shoot you individually because the radar wont pick it up until its too late:( .

Well I have a V1 and have been stopped and ticketed using VASCAR. But that's only happened once in the 5 years I've owned my V1. Damn Indiana State Police.

Funny thing is I was pulled over twice that same day in two different states. First by ISP for speeding, second by Cobb county police (Georgia) later that night for expired tags. (Just a verbal warning though since they were 1 day expired....cuz I needed an emissions test to renew and I was up at school in MN)

A breaker bar is like a socket wrench with out the "click click". It's a solid bar with the socket attachment on the end. It's much stronger than a socket wrench. You can find them wherever tools are sold ;)

Depends what size. They make 1/4" 3/8" and 1/2" just like socket wrenches. (well, and 3/4" and 1" too, I suppose...for those nutty big bolts).

But they are about the same price as a socket wrench.
