I didn't realize Merc even offered the Marauder with a stick.Jesda wrote:
True, the Marauder never lived up to the hype, but this is a really nice upgrade. I assume Mustang components are involved.
the gearing was more aimed towards highway performance ala g50. people don't see the fun in that sadly enough. with some pretty simple mods, the marauder can be a 1/4mi beastJesda wrote:A lot of folks griped about the lack of straight-line performance because they were expecting something astronomically faster than the Impala SS. I thought acceleration was good, but not good enough for the asking price. My biggest complaint was with the interior -- a couple white gauges in the bottom of the center stack do not count as an upgrade.
Used, I suspect these cars will be a ridiculously good bargain and won't hold their value like the Impala did. Count me in!
I was under the impression the Mafrauder was essentially a plain ol Grand Marquis Grandma-mobile with the same motor, black plastic trim instead of chrome, 2 silly extra guages mounted too low to be of any use, a louder muffler, and slightly stiffer shocks. Am I wrong?Mr1der wrote:they didn't.
that's why it looks so out of place there....
I'd love to do that to one and include twin turbos on it however.
and if I felt particularly evil, I'd get rid of the Maruader bumpers...
Unfortunately, yes, you're essentially right.Bubba1 wrote:I was under the impression the Mafrauder was essentially a plain ol Grand Marquis Grandma-mobile with the same motor, black plastic trim instead of chrome, 2 silly extra guages mounted too low to be of any use, a louder muffler, and slightly stiffer shocks. I think if Ford had approached the Mafrauder as GM had done earlier with the Grand National, the car might have garnered a little respect among enthusiasts. Unfortunately Ford went the cheap and cheezy route. It's a waste of a good idea.vicQ45 wrote:it actually uses a different 4-valve dohc design similar to the mark VIII. it can handle quite a bit of power. the VT group can stroke and supercharge it for about $30k giving it something like 480rwhp. not to mention some since suspension upgrades as well. with just a stroke, it has around 380 lb/ft torque. that's the way ford should have made it from the factory. overall it's a beautiful car that just begs to be modded.

There were a lot of us who had been watching this car with great anticipation who were extremely disappointed when it finally hit showrooms. It's a great looking car--great stance, excellent stock wheels, and the grille is a massive improvement over the GM.
But it's little more than a change from an office suit to a mafioso tuxedo.
twice the valves too! it's ridiculously easy to make those 32v dohc 4.6l emgines put out over 500hp. the internals are strong as hell tooMr1der wrote:

it had two extra cams on it.
while it's nothing outstanding stock....we all know what the Ford DOHC 4.6 is capable of while a little forced induction on it.
there a lot of Mustang Mach1's and NA Cobras running love 11's with a single turbo upgrade and 4psi...
Sssh, dont tell grandma.dfw240_EE wrote:I thought it was the Grandma mobile with a cobra engine under the hood
