They seem to be working from the same marketing manual as Intel, and both are clearly trying as hard as they can to make sure NO ONE knows WTF they're buying from name alone.

This is an E-class:

This is a C-class:

And this is an E-class coupe:

Makes sense, right? What if I told you that the E-class Coupe is actually the successor to the CLK. The CLK is a C-class. And so is the E-class coupe. Let me try that again, because it's so stupid. The E-class Coupe is a C-class. Except it has fascia that looks like an E-class.

It's like Infiniti selling the G37 coupe as an M37 coupe. It's not an M, it's a G. It has a G chassis. It is a G. It is not an M.The E-class coupe is not an E-class, it's a C-class. It has a C-class chassis and is a C-class.

What in all the fiery depths of the deepest Hell that is STUPIDITY could have led someone to think this was a GOOD THING?! What POSSIBLE benefit could be reaped from confusing your model names? What the f*** is MB getting out of renaming the CLK? Where's the gain? I DON'T GET IT.

MB has been ripping people off this way for years. CLK and E-coupe have always been styled after the E-class but were a crappy C-class underneath. Great way to charge more for a lesser car.

CLK was a clever marketing trick, and they got so cocky they decided to go full-tilt and name it an E-class coupe.

The C-class has historically been ugly and misproportioned, so I don't disagree with the the styling tweaks. The naming is what doesn't compute...seems to me selling a C-class as an E-class is more bad for the E-class than good for the C-class.

It kind of reminds me of when Land Rover came up with the Range Rover Sport. You're lead to believe its just the sporty version of the Range Rover, but underneath its a weird mix of Jaguar bits with none of the BMW goodness that went into the full fat Range Rover. Its also smaller, cheaper inside, and less capable off road.

Women love it just because its "Sport". Seems common to see athlete's wives driving them. Money being no object, they'll still choose the Sport over the full size Range Rover.

Mercedes-Benz has taken a page out of the Lexus book with there headlights and tail lights on the new styling. What ever hope there was for me liking Mercedes-Benz was killed by that move.

There is only ONE MB that I will love though and that is the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.

You've got it backward: Lexus stole their headlight design from MB.

I always thought of the SLR McLaren as an ugly, overcomplicated, overpriced bucket of luxofail. The new SLS AMG, however, is a geniune supercar, badass, and beautiful.

1989 Lexus ES:

1989 Lexus LS:

Late-1979-1991 S-class:

1984+ E-class:

1997+ GS:

1995+ E-class:

Lexus' very first models were MB ripoffs, and they've repeatedly stolen MB's quad headlight format over their two-decade lifetime.

Acura doesn't copy anyone. For them to copy someone there'd have to be another luxury brand out there that doesn't offer ANY V8s or ANY RWD models or anything bigger than an Accord.

The only people who believe Acura's a top-tier luxury brand are Acura marketing morons. You can't compete with the 5 series with Accords, no matter how many high-tech acronyms you glue on the trunk.

No amount of bad marketing can f*** with this:

But I do appoint MOD to CEO of my car company first thing. In house designed engine is next on the to-do list, or at least an AJP8.

You're right. The CLK was based on the C Class and the new E Class is no different:

The last real E Class coupe:

I derped while reading this. Too much class confusion. Thus I derped and said wat.
