So, running 40w oil in a 95 Q45 is ok? I happen to have a 12 qt box of 0w-40 Mobil 1 sitting around. Anyone else doing this? Does warmer or colder climate affect engine oil performance, when using 40w?
0w-40 is absolutely ok, even better than ok.
Its thin enough to be run in winter (0w-xx) and thick enough to be run in summer (xw-40)
Factory manuals mentioned 10w-40 for summer ( and 10w-30 and others...
See page 185 section, 9-22: 10w-40 authorized for all temps above -20 F.

(this is for the 1992 but its the same motor as in your 95, a VH45de)
Your 0w-40 is thinner in cold start (which is good) so you could run in in colder temps and it will also work great in the hot summer we are having since its a 40 weight.
best of both worlds.
Also this is the oil that brought me back to Mobil 1, since a few years ago they improved the formulation of their 0w-40 with better lube stock removing the only disadvantage typical of oils with such wide spreads between the first and the 2nd number( I wont get into the why and how, too much writing)
I use Mobil1, 0w-40 in both my Nissan engines right now (a V6 and a V8, both of are follow on Nissan designs to your Nissan/Infiniti VH45de)
