Back in 01 there were a series of memos between Dept Assistant Attorney General John Yoo and the President of the United States of America. These documents(from which we only know excerpt) were written at the specific request of the Bush administration. These memos aimed at setting up the legal platform from which to launch domestic spying operations and interrogation methods to be used in the war on terror.

Both of these memos originated from John Yoo's office. He acts as the presidential 'go to' guy for all things legal.

Memo the first..

"Our office recently concluded that the Fourth Amendment had no application to domestic military operations" Was the footnote from a document titled 'Authority for use of Military Force to Combat terrorlst Activities'.

Memo number two..

"Our previous opinions make clear that customary international law is not Federal law & the President is free to override it at his discretion" .............. "Finally, even if the criminal prohibitions outlined above applied, & an interrogation method might violate those prohibitions, necessity or self-defense could provide justifications for any criminal liability"

-End

This is strait from the executive branch of our government basically saying that the Constitution as well as international law is meaningless as far as they are concerned. In addition, the last line is simply disturbing as hell. Do you guys understand the implications of the last piece of that memo? They set up legal grounds for torture.. So their interrogators would have the means to escape any ramifications of their actions.

The Geneva conventions as well as the 8th amendment prohibit torture.

Congress has yet to declare war, so doesnt that mean bush doesnt have war time authority?

These memos are proof of international as well as US war crimes. Anyone using these memos as justification to commit acts of torture or unlawful spying is a criminal.

This proves that the events in Abu Ghraib, GTMO, and secret European prisons were authorized by high level people in the Bush administration, if not bush himself. That it had in fact been policy since the war started.

This info came from a research paper i wrote about our threatened constitutional freedoms. I couldnt find those exact sources with a quick google search, but if you google with those headlines you get a bunch of stuff that comes up that has more or less the same information.

Your completely missing the point. This ish is happening in OUR world and going unchecked and unpunished.

I refuse to 'get over' anyone in power treating our Constitution like its a meaningless piece of paper. Especially by a person who IN HIS GD JOB DESCRIPTION reads something like.. To protect and uphold the laws of the Constitution.

But again, it goes much further than that. It speaks volumes about a population who cares a hell of a lot more about a President getting his dvk wet and lying about it than a President breaking our supreme laws.

It speaks about media coverage that is frightening at best, where was this in the news? This is solid proof that our President broke the law, repeatedly.

Why didnt this wake anyone up?

Why does no one care now? We still have 3 months left. Impeachment would send a statement to the World that America doesnt tolerate this bull ****. Its a statement that will never come.

It could have something to do with the average free thought capability of most Americans. Something about this much.

I share your outrage beleive me but people who see the writing on the wall are few and far between. Want to start an underground barter network for when they start chipping people like the livestock they are and money is completely virtual? I'm in

You are not alone. I am not so mad at the sheep, most people lead insignificant robotic lives counting down to their four line entry in the obituary section of the paper. I am mad at the people who like some of us here see what is coming but unlike us say nothing. That is inexcusable

Let alone some of the actual legislation that has been passed during the last 8 years.

Legislation that if you tossed it up next to the Constitution should spontaneously ignite. Patriot act of course, Protect America Act is a lesser known one, and another one that i cant remember off the top of my head.. come to mind. All of these acts are worded as if the American public is so stupid that the acts name alone conjures support for the bills.

Have you ever taken then time to read some of the Patriot act? Its worded so loosely a high school student could take advantage of the loopholes. Loopholes and legislation that is in clear violation of the Constitution of the United States of America but yet, passed, and has yet to be rescinded. It has a sunset clause i believe but was recently voted on again and passed it through for another 2(iirc) years.

The constitution is only as good as the people willing to support it. Over the last 8 years, we saw that the constitution was in reality, just a worthless artifact from a time when real men, real politicians held office.

I always worry when the country comes together, whether its under the fear and anger of 9/11 or the drug-like high of Obama's election. If we aren't critical and observant of the people we elect, we'll get what's coming.

Name a specific item passed under the Bush Admin that is in direct violation of the Constitution.

Other than the Patriot Act and the Protect America act, you can also look an addendum to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act which, contrary to its name, has a wide scope that includes domestic spying.

Specifically the addition of the legislation to protect telecom companies from sharing millions of peoples private information with the federal government without a court order.

Domestic warrantless surveillance made legal by the bush administration and congress. Just for starters.

The vote also deals a severe blow to civil liberties groups that are suing companies such as AT&T and Verizon for turning over millions of American's phone records to the government, and for helping the government wiretap American's phone and internet communications without a court order.
