A friend of mine car overheated about 5 months ago when the top of the radiator broke. its been parked since. yesterday i went over and replace the radiator for here and tried to start the care. it turned over but would not start. so i looked to see if it was getting any spark and it was. i pulled the plug out and seen that two of the plugs were melted where they make contact with the spark plug. whats would have caused this? She also told me that weeks before it overheated, the spark wire blew out and put a dent in the hood? any suggestions?

had there been a tune up done to the car just prior to the hood incident? If so then it seems to me may be the wrong plugs put in that went in a little deep and came in contact the the piston. I may be wrong but that is one possibility.

yea it did have a recent tuneup, but that wouldnt cause the top of the sparkplug wire to melt.im stomped

Hey, you said it overheated, well chances are, it probably got so hot the plugs melted. In that case the motor may need it's head and block shaved due to warppage from the overheat. If the case is extreme the motor is probably toast.

well if the plug wasn't pushed all the way on where the was a gap for the spark, the spark could I think create enough heat to melt the wire. I really don't know, could have been a bad wire.

But with it overheating I would do a compression check on the motor to see if you can rule out the blown headgasket or a warped head.

It could have been that the plugs had melted when it overheated, or it could have been that the plugs just hadn't been replaced for a long time, I've seen plugs melt from not being replaced.

I have seen plugs get blown out of many altimas, is that what this car is?? It is usually caused by one of 2 things, either the hole the plug is in is stripped or the plug was not properly torqued down. When the plug was in and firing it is likely the combustion gases were getting in the spark plug well which likely melted the rubbed plug wire boots. I say replace the plugs with quality NGK plugs and replace the wire set with a quality set and see what you got.
