1992 Nissan 240SX manual trans all stock 240K miles.

There was some sort of sensor located/ taped/ tied onto the wiring harness that goes to the coil- it appears to have had 4 wires going to it and it is melted beyond recognition. The only thing I can think of is maybe an ambient air temp sensor? whatever it is if I touch 2 of the wires together the motor dies, might be the root cause of a problem I posted earlier about starting problems.

Anyways I can't replace it until I figure out what it is first, or maybe I can but I'd have to get one from the salvage yard which all seem to have disappeared around here.

what colour are the wires? the only thing that has melted for me is the o2 sensor wire. there is no ambient temp sensor.

4 wires Black w/ red stripeGreen w/ black stripeYellow w/ red stripesolid black

the first 2 are heavier gauge (maybe 14/16) than the bottom 2 (which are 16/18, one gauge down I think)

Here's a picture [IMG][/IMG] or if that doesn't work a link- http://s53.photobucket.com/alb...d.jpg

THANKS!I wonder how the thing still runs without it? Just checked rockauto and they don't even list it, probably dealership/ salvage yard only.

What do you think would have caused it to melt other than a direct short? I guess I'll find another one and worry about a cause if it happens again.

Finally found one after going to 6 different salvage yards (I found 1 nissan 240SX out of all of them). Put it on but the car still has the same problem it did before so I'm thinking the root cause may be the real problem and this part melting was just a symptom of that same problem.

Original problem- zerothread?id=380029

you better post this in the technical forum and the general forum and also at zilvia.com.

try disconnecting negative of battery for 30 seconds to reset computer.i dont know much about this. i dont know why a fuse did not blow. if your resistor/condensor failed somehow, you may have damaged the ecu or the control module. you may have short in wires or in one of the ignition components. hopefully, you get lucky and somebody will know about this.

Fuse was good.

Since the problem this thread was about is fixed I'm going to update the other thread.
