Iam in the Air Force. I work as a jet mechanic, so when it comes to cars I always thought myself a whiz. I recently bought a black on black q45t. The cars cosmetic condition was amazing, so i figured anything wrong with the engine i could fix. So i purchased the car from California(original cali car). I bought the Q knowing that the check engine light was on and it would need new knock sensors. I took the plenum off and got to the knock sensors just to find out they had been melted. I have no idea even after the 150,000 mi. the car has on it why both the knock sensors would melt? i brought the sensors to all the back shops down at my base, and still nobody with even a guess to how they might have go that way? i thought even engine fire but the rest of the engine and car is emaculate. i am writing in hopes that someone may have had the same problem or know something about this...i have the car torn down and the new knock snsors ready to go in but am not sure if these new ones may melt too, or if there may be something else i need to fix first. THANK YOU very much in advance to any1 who may respond!

Put them in an oven and heat until they simulate the flow, then you will find the exact temperature the cylinder heads achieved.

Melted KS are common on engines driven without coolant for 10-15 miles.

Usually the engine siezes and the head alloys change and warp from this level of overheat..........somebody was lucky that they caught it or turned it off just in time..........Pull the valve covers and examine for baked on sludge.......bearings and crank rods and piston will probably be damaged but may/are still functioning.

We usually replace engines that have had melted KS.
