While lapping my 96 s14, white smoke began filling the interior of the car along with a horrible smell. My wipers will not turn off now and it turns out my interior fuse box is melted. Until I replace the box I won't know if the dash wiring harness has been damaged as well. I have only bolt on upgrades to the motor and a Jim Wolf ECU. I am asking for help assessing how this happened. I've run the car a few times at the track without issue. Has anyone else had a similar problem?
Thanks.

You got rims? My guess is tire rubbed the hardness on the inner fender

I do but there is no offset and the tires are 215/40/17, so it's pretty close to stock. Is the dash harness exposed to the outside of the car?

I appreciate the input. I couldn't find any info by searching the site.

I checked the harness in the wheel well and it's not a tire rub on the harness. Any other thoughts on what may have caused this to happen?
