I don`t get why I melted the this product? I only drove it for 15 minutes and this is what it looks like. I plan on calling the company tomorrow or email them and try to figure this out. Does anybody else use this product?

O **** man. hahahahaha

It only blocks radiant heat. You can't put it directly on the turbine housing. Use it on stuff that needs shielding. I put it on my brake fluid resovior and my brake booster line.

I was about to say damn, mine is even touching the downpipe in one spot and hasn't melted. But yea, they will tell you it only blocks raidant heat too. Says on the box direct heat of like 400* IIRC. You exceeded that at idle I'm sure.

lol, ya u need to use that stuff to block heat from the heat source, not try to trap the heat from the radiating heat source. i think only klattr is using the iconel stuff and i think the other option was a ss heat shield if u wanted to cover the turbine housing.

According to the directions I have which by the way is very poorly written. It says to lay down the turbine wrap then add on top the wrap with shiny foil on top. So far I am not real impressed with it. I will give them a call and see what they say. Even the picture that comes in the kit shows it they way I installed it.

Yet another email. These guys seem to be serious in resolving this issue. Two thumbs up for them!

Dear Robert,We are getting your replacement out today. It is possible so we can throughly check out the problem for you to send me a sample of the used & un-used foil material. Regular mail would be fine either to: PO Box 96 or 488 US Hwy 250 North, both in Greenwich, Ohio 44837.

Kind RegardsJim

Good to see that, rseabrooke. Not too often are companies so willing to take care of failures like this. I'll remember this about thermo-tec.

Did you ask them if you had installed it properly? It would suck to do the same thing and have the melting happen again... they might not be so willing to replace the part.

I am sending them the whole turbo shield. So they will know exactly how I installed it and what the problem is.

Ha!I'm not the only one who's had this problemSo you said you put the header wrap on the turbo first and then put the fiberglass and foil on top of that? The instructions said nothing about the use of header wrap at all. Just cut the fiberglass and foil to a trapeziod shape, weave the wire through the long sides, install on the turbo and tighten.

I thought the melting problem was due to fuel burning in my turbo due to a leaky injector.

You should have gotten in your kit a 6 inch by 3 foot wrap that is for the turbine(Cut to fit). Then you wrap the Fiberglass foil on top of that. Guess I how now about that one!!

Did you wrap it once or twice? Also did you wrap the inlet housing. The directions recommend to wrap that as well.

i wrapped it once and i can touch the turbine and its only warm...of course dont leave your hand on it for too long but it the wrap wasnt there it would burn automatically....

no i didnt wrap the compressor housing because it doesnt get hot, and even if it does get hot its not close enough to anything to burn anything..

obviouslythe more layers you wrap the turbine the better it will work. i used to think that wrapping it will make it worse since its trapping the heat, but hot air moves faster and you want the turbine to spin faster

i just bought this same exact kit from jegs.

im glad the company has great service. good luck on the second try.

Well I completely re-installed the heat shield with the brown exhaust wrap on first. The same thing happened, it just took a little longer this time. I actually had multiple layers of the header wrap on the downpipe and it still melted through the foil. I probably have the defective foil, luckily Thermotec is sending replacement material. More props to thier customer support system.
