So I need to pass inspection, so I went to Meineke to see what they could do with my exhaust. I told the guy i wanted all new pipe to replace the 2.5 inch i have now. So he does the free estimate and all that jazz, takes me out to look at the exhaust thats on there and explains crap. the number he gives me is...."Hey Bryan, it'd be 661 dollars, and 687 if you want the nice chrome tips"

WHAT THE CRAPPIN ****!

That seems like a super ridiculous amount of money just for some bent up pipe. Has anyone else had exhaust done at Meineke?

you do exhaust at your local muffler shop not meineke. muffler shops do exhausts for about 180 -200. or look in the classifieds , with allthese ppl getting aftermarket exhausts there must be someone in your area selling one for about 50 bucks or so..or even free..i usually give out stock junk for free..

W T F?!?!?! wow. yeah i've heard of those rediculous prices before. around here you can get full pipping from the cat back for $80-$120 (muffler not included...your choice).

Yeah, that's not gonna work. I had a "mom and pop" muffler shop fab up a 2.25" catback for my 89 S13. Pipes and muffler came up to $170. It would have been cheaper if I went for the stock replacement muffler.

Mine was done at meineke. I got a high flow magnaflow cat, and 2.25 inch piping, no resonator. they put more bends in it than I wanted, but that was sorta my fault because I wasnt very specific. I was charged 250. BTW, meineke is a great place to go for exhaust work, they do very good work. The welds on my system are amazing, and fitment is perfect. Just make sure you tell them exactly what you want, and you will be pleased.

Hey Sean (right name?) I think so.

Go to 'Mighty Muffler' out in Aston, PA, (like 25min over the DE border) they're cheap and do really good work. They did a full catback with a magnaflow muffler for $300-something on my friend Lonnie's Z31 last year. It was top-knotch.. I'm sure if you go there and say you need new piping (and you'll probably need a good sized resonator) should be like $100-$200 at most. That is if you go with aluminized piping or something. They're in the phonebook. I highly recommend. I've been in their shop before, its clean and they were doing a custom dualie system for a Silverado out of stainless steel.

Hope that helps. I may pay them a visit soon as well because I'll need a resonator when i got with the header my bf owes me.

It's Bryan, but no worries.

i guess you could technically knock off 220$ from that quote to make it a "price for full replacement exhaust". because the pipe is just welded into the cat (no flange on the pipe), he said i'd need a new cat too, which would be 220$

for now i'm just getting my car tagged ...specially.... so i dont have to drive around with expired tags anymore, and im gonna take care of the exhaust a short time after.

on a side note, i now know that i only need 2 new tires instead of 4 on my other set of wheels. one of them is bubbled out on the side, and the other is almost bald.

Get the bubbly one outta there quick! I almost ahd one blow on be befor I got onto the freeway in my Minivan, and it felt like I was driving on a square tire just before...

They are totally unsafe to drive on, just a heads up because a blowout at high speed is dangerous and at low speed costly.

the wheels are Katana Concept Five. they were on the car when i bought it.

as for the bubbly tire, that is on one of the tires with those wheels, they've been just sittin in the garage waiting for someone to buy/waiting for me to get tires... right now i'm riding on the 7 spoke alloys

Local non chain muffler places are the way to go. I have made friend with out local muffler man. I also refer all my friends to him. The last 2 times I came in he didn't charge me for the repairs.

Ooops. It's Bryan. Sorry.

Dude, come over our house (not my mom's but my bf's) and we can put the catalytic converter on for you. Just buy one on ebay or off of Nopi.com or something. I recommend a Catco or Magnaflow, they're about $110 for either. And that's for Hi-flow too, I don't know what he quoted you, but $220 for a oem unit is insane. Now go to Mighty muffler. Sheesh.

Email Greg ([email protected]) about a Magnaflow cat.

I bought one from him after my local Midas quoted me $500 for a cat + $100 installation. I think I paid $130 shipped, but that was for a odd shaped cat for my Escort.

man i supplied my own pipe (3") & a dynomax race muffler. the guy ran pipe from my turbo back for $120. The welds are really high quality. the best part was he didnt make me run a cat. other places wouldnt do it unless i had a cat or i paid them like $400 & i had all the stuff ( pipes & mffler)i think they are tryin to rip you off

as for exhaust......im gonna wait a little bit and see what i can find since i wont have to get it fixed to pass inspection anymore

Meineke stores are individually owned (franchised). that store was just bull****ting you. i work for Meineke and we do custom exhaust work on 240's quite a bit. the most expensive job weve done so far was $300 walk-out. and that was because the guy wanted to flange and bolt everything like a true cat-back. other wise we can do exhausts up to 3" for less than $200 all day long.
