So I pulled off my old tension rod and brackets because one bracket was bent and both 19 year old bushings are shot. I figured while I have them off I'd just upgrade to a spherical bearing type instead of just replacing the bushing on the OEM.

I only found one really informative topic about them when I searched and some of the posts made me really iffy. Does anybody have any more input on them? Or should I not be cheap and get SPL or Battle Version rods?

Megan tension rods are ok. But if you want the best, I suggest getting Battle Version instead.

I have been running tension rods on my daily for over a year now, no problems. I will most likely run them till they snap and then upgrade furher. I was in the same situation you were in, with blown tension bushings... bushings seem much harder to install then the rods were, its only 3 bolts per side. the cost of the megans can be relatively cheap compared to new bushings + labor to install. If you need a quick fix for your DD, buy megan (I drove mine daily thru the ortega HWY, still no problems). If you track your car every weekend, save more and get SPL or another brand everyone deems more reliable if it makes you sleep easier at night.

***also, your going to need alignment if you upgrade to adjustable rods, I didnt do it right away and the caster wore my tire down to steel before the outside tread was worn. no my sh*t is str8 but i still rock megan.

I have megan rods on my S13 daily driven...if i could do i all over again I would have gone with SPL or something more beefier. Just like S133P3R said, if you are looking for a quick fix the price of Megans are tempting, but don't expect too much from them IMO

my cousin had megan tension rods. Passenger side got bent (right where the threading goes onto the rod). It was only daily driven.
