Which of the two coilovers would you recommend? It's goin on my S14 which is my daily driver and weekend "track" car...The HKS coilovers are used with about 2000 miles on em and they're going for the same price as the Megans Brand new which is about $800-$900 shipped...Appreciate any Suggestions/advice. Thanks.

HKS.

Your taking a gamble with Megans. You might get a good set , and you might not , but they are not the worst on the market.

Eh, its the same with buying the used coilovers. HKS struts aren't that cheap to rebuild either. If you were to buy the used ones, and find that all 4 are blown, you would have to spend as much money to rebuild them as if you were to just buy the Hypermax D's brand new.

hell tho, I'd still take them over Megans though, lol.

i would say go for HKS because everything i have heard about the Megans, street or track, is that there under-dampened and quite bouncy

I have HKS coilovers (hypermax II). for an 8/6 spring set-up, they're pretty smooth compared to others (my cousin has the megan streets in an 8/6 spring set-up).

Inverted monotube ftmfw!! it just sucks that you have to get under your car to adjust the damper... but its better than having a bouncy ride, LOL

Now everyone is saying Megan's suck? Last I heard people were buying Megan's and liking them, why such the sudden change of heart? Did it really only take this long for Megan's to lose their quality?

I just can't find myself getting something like that when I could spend a few hundred more and have something twice as good. Megans suck in performance but they won't prematurely blow on you, I guess that's a good thing?

It's more towards if you just want to slam your car or if you enjoy tracking it or if you want to do both. If you just want to lower your car and don't care about ride quality, get megans by all means. They will shatter your teeth on bumpy roads, but if you can deal with it then that's cool. If you track your car alot, anywhere from 1 to 5 times a month (like me), you'll want to spend the extra few hundreds and get something of better quality because the megans will grow old on you real quick and you will most likely wish you had better coilovers to start with. I've seen it happen many times. That is subjective to the person and driver skill though, so take that how you want. I just saw "weekend track car" so I suggested the hks's.

edit: also, with megans their dampening is so random, each corner of the car won't be the same. Some sets are better dampened than others.

I have megan's on mines and i run it hard in the mountains and drift with them sometimes. they're holding up pretty good. I know ALOT of drifters who run them too and they got no complaints. Its not the best in the market but def. not the worst. especially for the price you can get them for.

I do not know why everybody is baggin MR. I have the total MR setup on my 91' swap with 17x8 and 17x9 stickies and the car handles flawlessly at the Reno Fernely Race Track. I vote Megan http://www.reno-fernleyraceway.com/

I'm not baggin on MR coils. My cousin really likes his.. and if I asked him if he would buy another set for the price he got them for, he'd easily go at it. I've never heard of them blowing or anything before... the issue was never about it's reliability...

dude, the springs on both megan and hks and all components of the suspension are made in the same factory, the only difference between them is the brand and shocks. HKS, Apexi, megans are almost completely the same. trust me...
