I can buy Megan Racing headers that have been PC'd black for $150. They have never been installed. What do you guys think? I have heard both positive and negative things about Megan racing products! They are for a 04 350z. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I'd pass.

For the minimal HP gains, you;re going to be dealing with a few drawbacks:

The thin-walled steel Megan uses for their headers will make your Z substantially louder.
The flanges are notoriously variable, which means difficulty sealing (unless you use the thick gaskets).
Powdercoat won't survive header heat (which is probably why someone's selling them cheap). Kind of a silly way to coat headers.

Megan's downpipes are decent for the price, but I wouldn't pull the trigger on the header deal.

I really appreciate your help. After reading over this and researching a little more, it will just not be worth it. I did not know a header install would cost so much! Thanks again for your help

Sure thing. If you run across a set of the NISMO headers (used), those are a great catch, and possibly worth the cost / hassle.

i can tell you that unless your going for over 550 whp headers arnt really worth it for how hard it is to install them(i did mine by rocking the engine with the motormounts unbolted but it dint have haders on to start since i rebuilt the engine.) now if you do intend to go over that there is nothing wrong with the megans. they might not be as nice as say momentums(if you can find them still) however i have literally over 100+ 600 whp pulls on mine and they get red hot nearly everytime i take the car out with ceramic coating and heat wrap on them and still going strong.

def not lol im running a boosted performance turbo kit with a precision 6765 cea, straight pipe exhuast, dual bosch 044's, 18 gph direct port meth system with 100% pure meth, southbend feramic clutch, jwt flywheel, cosworth oil control baffle, wossner 8.0:1 pistons, pauter rods, acl hx series bearings, stock heads and cams with bc springs and retainers, kinetix intake, 24 row oil cooler aeromotive a1000 fpr, cjm rail, precision 1200 cc injectors, and full haltech setup. the dyno was 601 ft lbs of torque at 4800 rpms and 587 hp at 5200 rpms. boost was set to 30 psi but would only spike to 26 and immediately drop to 20 due to slipping clutch.

currently has trans out of it getting the custom built southbend 6 puck, revup lower with runners shortened, stock upper lid, 16 gallon fuel cell and ditching meth in favor of 34/66 mix of dupont 105 and 92 octane. once the clutch is broken in boost will be set to 32 psi and i should make 800 to the wheels. might send the turbo out for the 66 exhuast wheel and try for 900 come tax time

Nice. So, it's an after-header or rear-mount turbo setup?

its a midmount, y pipe from headers to turbo which mounts a little behind the trans tailshaft and under the driveshaft tucked up so it dosnt scrape. one of the best turbo kits on the market but he only advertises on another forum because its a side thing for him. he has twin scroll kits now too, turbo options are anything between a 6266 and 7576 and also makes a twinscroll for the 370z and he said it should fit the hr as well but not 100% till he gets a customer with one to test fit on

Gotcha. Sounds amazing.

Have him touch base with me... we can offer him a ton more traffic.

After the holidays, let's chat about doing a homepage feature article on your ride (if you'd be interested). Great way to get a ton of exposure (and possibly pick up a sponsor or two).

Megan is sometimes a hit and a miss, the only thing I have from on my car from megan are the test pipes. And they have remained in good condition on my car for about 80k and 5 years.

If you really are milking for gains with a Z, I would go with DC, crawford or like what Greg said, nismo.

I would be leery with headers, every Z seems to respond differently. Some people have actually experienced hardly any gain with dyno proven results.
