you may know that I've done a lot of exhaust mods in the past...from HFC's, Motordyne xyz, Megan mids and axle backs, stock mufflers with larger tips and piping, etc....I think I'm done with the exhaust -- for now....

I just picked up the Megan ypipe (Version 2, HR style for the DE motor). I have an HR ypipe that came off of a 2012 G37s - which I had on my car for about 1000 miles and took it off thinking I was going to go dual with an xpipe, but never committed to it. Lately I've been running the stock M35 ypipe, it's decent but I always knew that I wanted to free up the y section.

Impressions of the Megan ypipe (version 2), very well built and the welds are really detailed. The inlet piping diameters are 2.5" and merge to the 3" outlet. Install was straight forward, my exhaust guy had no issues connecting it to my Megan mids...so now I have a 'full' Megan exhaust... I noticed an immediate difference in flow, sound and performance. The new ypipe style improved the torque and response compared to the stock ypipe. I took the car on the fwy and did some quick runs and the top end felt really good, too....the sound is not loud and obnoxious, but has a nice growl when I step on it. During city cruising, the car performs and sounds really good. I'm happy with the new ypipe and any M35 guys thinking of getting it, you'll be happy. I don't think this will fit the M35x, instead you may need to get the Megan ypipe made for the HR motor.

The seller that I go thru for the Megan parts is right down the street from Megan, so I was lucky to get one saved for me...Freddie, on our forum, is also another contact that the forum guys can go to. Either way, let me know if you guys are interested, I can provide my contact's info...his price is pretty good on the Megan products....

My current set up:
exhaust: Megan Ypipe - version 2, Megan midpipes, Megan axle back mufflers w/burnt tips

Intake: Injen CAI, Motordyne plenum spacer, Motordyne MREV2 w/isothermal gasket, polished plenum and throttle body

other: Uprev, SxExCx grounding kit, Eibach prokit, SPC adjustable camber arms, H&R wheel spacers

boxed and wrapped

Did anything special have to be done with the cats/sensors? Isn't their two sensors at the front there?

nothing needs to be done to the stock cats....the inlet pipes from the ypipe bolt right up to the cats outlets... I believe the M45's have the ypipes connected to their secondary cats...

the M35 ypipes are plug and play...so I've never had to un-do the sensors from the cats...

Thanks. For some reason I thought there was a post-cat sensor but you're right...there is a sensor up high on both sides and then one that goes into the pipe just before the cats.

thanks brotha!!! I'll try and get some sound clips...

btw, the shop that I go through for the Megan parts indicated he can get the new Megan Ypipes at a good price for the fellow NICO M35's...if the new Ypipes are still available, he can do $160 + shipping just shoot me a PM with your zip.....

Just so I'm clear on this ... Those pipes bolt on just after the CATs. Also it appears that the Y pipe leads to a single outlet? Am I looking at it wrong or is there another section after this Y-pipe that splits back into a separate pipe for each muffler?

Yes, you are correct...the Ypipe bolts right up to the stock cats and taper down to a single outlet to the start of the mid pipe...which eventually splits to two pipes that lead to it's own muffler. Megan uses the same path of the stock exhaust set up, they just make the exhaust piping diameter larger and free flowing. In a addition, Megan uses the same bolt/flange locations as the stock so it is quite possible to have a combination of Megan and stock set up - based on preference. There are 3 sections of the M's exhaust from the Cats. Ypipe, Midpipe (which also consists of the resonators) and mufflers. some guys just want to keep the stock ypipe and midpipes while adding the Megan mufflers - they bolt directly to the stock location. Others may keep the stock ypipe, while adding the Megan mids and mufflers - still using the stock location. I've went so far to test the sound of keeping the stock mufflers connected to the Megan midpipes and aftermarket ypipe, HFC's -- the sound was not loud at all, but I did notice better flow. you can compare the difference when I put on the Megan mufflers with all the exhaust mods...I did some videos of my previous exhaust set ups....here are a few:

I wanted to update this thread with some pix of prior Ypipes and other exhaust parts that I used - Megan 1st generation ypipe (the shape was more like a “T”) - the sound was very loud compared to stock ypipe and it felt as if I loss some low end torque. So it was swapped out. Next Ypipe, I went with the Motordyne xyz with resonator and HFC module - great ypipe!! this provided the best flow and especially at the top end WOT…the sound was really good, not too loud, but provided a deep sound. I swapped it out at the time since my son was just getting his driver’s license so I had to calm the car down. Also, the resonator module was almost 4” diameter and it would scrape on certain roads/driveways since my car is lowered…and my son didn’t know how to drive lowered cars that well…you get the picture! The current Megan Version 2 ypipe is a great choice for me...good flow and good sound...it's been almost 2-3 weeks of having it installed and I have no complaints.... here are the pix:

Its been a year on any activity on your comments. I initially came across your YouTube video and posted a comment this past week. I am interested in learning more about the Megan's exhaust setup you have with Berk HFCs. Can you shoot me an email @ [email protected]

Maybe we could exchange phone numbers and I can pick your brain.

Thank you

I haven't heard any in person yet either. I have been debating picking up the Megan Racing line of parts through work and doing a group buy on the exhausts and coilovers but haven't time to organize one.

To this day, I have no seen or heard one in person myself.
Still not sold on the Megan system, it does look good, polished, clean welds but those damn tips look cheap as hell. I'd rather go get a muffler delete with some agressive tips and down piping, still cheaper than Megan full system.
Maybe I hear/see it in person, nahh them tips would still bug the hell out of me.

^Just get the Megan mid pipe and axle back, z-tube, plenum spacer and Uprev tune...you'll be good. You can search aFe dry filter to see if they make one for the M35 if you don't want to use the K&N....
