Hello,
I'm looking for a reasonably priced quad tip exhaust for my 1994 n/a convertible. So far the best choice I seem to be finding is a Megan catback for around $550. Is this a good choice or do you guys know of a better choice in this price range? I want to be able to hear my exhaust, but not have it sound like a kidded up Honda.
Thanks,
Darrell

Hey, Washington!
I myself have never been impressed with the catback options for the Z32, mostly for the noise and fart cannon styles used in many/most.
I myself have always had a quality exhaust shop (Walt's or Bucky's in Washington, stay away from Austin's ProMax) fab up whatever needs I have for exhaust, with aluminized tubing and Magnaflow mufflers with tips added the costs are at or less than the pre-made catbacks. This way you get proper fitment for YOUR car and not the jig used to make the catback, one of the complaints I've seen about Megan stuff, and can have it made to work for your noise needs via whatever muffler works best there.
My latest exhaust work was done by my Z guy Doug at Fairlady Motors, he took a HKS catback tubing and added my mufflers and tips for a truly custom setup that isn't too loud, but does sound non-stock and flows very nicely for having stock exhaust the rest of the way forward except for DP's.

I may look into this. I want dual tips like factory. What muffler would you go with? My local muffler shop doesn't have a mandrel bender. How important is that? I'm thinking 2.25" piping.

Try Bucky's, on my '90 NA years ago I had them do 2 1/2" aluminized piping from engine back with hi-flow cats, stock resonators and magnaflow cats for $1K. So just the catback would be less, and not require the extra tubing and cats and resonators replaced saving a lot of cost. There aren't a lot of bends to make if they tuck it right and tight and the only bad one is at the rear, they were able to make a decent piece there and make it all fit with quad tips that were close enough to the factory look for me as I didn't want them looking OEM totally anyway.
On my TT Doug had the HKS catback tubing to start with, and had his guy cut/fit/weld on the mufflers and tips to fit withing the size required- I'm REALLY happy with it and it cost far less than a pre-made catback. Point is it's all just cut and fit welding, find someone who wants to do that work and you're set.
