It's a chancey option. There are a couple guys who are running RB's on MS with great results. It doesn't always work out though. I just undid all modifications to my harness for the MS. It saw RPM for a while and then just stopped. My Power FC should be here shortly, and I'm hoping for a much less stressful process with it.

Was the problem ever trouble shot? You state " It saw RPM for a while and then just stopped" Who built the MS unit? Do you or the person doing the install/tuning understand M/S and it's operation? Did you ask for help with diagnostics here? http://www.msefi.com/

The megasquirt is a viable stand alone for someone that is capable of it's operation. There are people on NICO that are using the MS on CA18's, RB's are no differant with the exception of 2 more cylinders. MS could care less how many injectors it runs or the # of cylinders.

The use of a standalone engine management allows you to be extremely flexible in the type of performance most of you expect from your engines. Again, if you're prepared to do the leg-work to get one installed, it would probably turn out to be a good investment. But as with any engine management, with an inexperienced tuner behind the controls, disaster is just a bad program away from happening. Good luck at whatever route you take......... Deeend qoute"

Bottom line do your research and don't jump headlong into any type of engine management, it will turn out to be a headache.

O believe me i'm far but not far from standalone. I was jus wondering if anybody was using it thats all. It seems to be a nice standalone off the fact its seems kinda custom. Jus curious to see who's running it and what type of numbers are being put up.

Yes, a LOT of trouble shooting was done. And posts were made on msefi.com. The person who sold me the megasquirt checked it with a stim, and even sent a new one he built to try which didn't work either. All wiring was checked, and all board mods that were suggested were tried. I completely agree with your statement about research, but mine was done and this just ended up not being the option for me

Do you think the setup would have been better if you put it together yourself, instead of buying one off somebody else? Or its just a little to custom to really narrow everything down and set parameters? Me personally i would probably do the intial setup myself and jus get it towed to a shop to tune. I'm not ready to enter that realm yet.

I'd like to read up on the problems you had. What username was used to post over at the Megasquirt forums?

Well, the person I'd bought it from made their business from assembling Megasquirts, and though I've done much more than my fair share of soldering, I felt better knowing the person who assembled it was someone who was used to doing it. Also, working full time, going to school full time, and needing this project running ASAP doesn't make for a lot of time to do the assembly myself.

Certainly! I'm still frustrated that the problem wasn't figured out, so anything you might suggest would be greatly appreciated! Here is a link: http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?t=27933 The user name is my boyfriend's, it's Wyldemannn. Unfortunately, there was also a lot of talking between him and Matt, which you can't read, but if you have any questions about what was or was not done, don't hesitate to ask.

Cool thanks. If I have any questions or suggestions I will use the Email you have listed here. One quick question first though. Why did you choose to use the CAS when an EDIS setup has proven super reliable and easy to set up? Just curious.

I was planning to, but wanted it up and running controlling fuel only first. Just to get it out on the road and driveable.

I looked into megasquirt. They have old spark drivers. About the olney way you could run oem coils would be with a msd dis4 and dis2 box to run all 6 coils. But i have heard good things about the system and = bad things. ive never used it yet.
