i have a 90 240sx, i want to start buying my gauges but im not sure weather to go mech or elec. whats the diff?

Boost can be mechanical, everything else electric.

Electrical means there is a sensor somewhere on the engine/in the engine bay that sends data via electricity to the gauge that is inside the car. Mechanical means there is actually resistance against the needle to make the gauge move. This means with an oil pressure gauge, you are bringing oil into the passenger compartment. Fuel pressure, same deal.

Edit: why do you need aftermarket gauges? Are you turbo?

reason being is that im going sr20 soon so just want to have gauges and stuff ready to go

One cost more, one cost less. The one cost more is easier to work with.

so its all about cost and labor. even if i go sr20 would that make a difference

Makes sense. Good preparations.

Get a mechanical boost gauge. If your tubing breaks then you have a boost leak, but it's only air. If an oil line breaks in your car, then all your oil is leaving your engine and spilling all inside your car. Same with fuel. Leave those electrical.
