Guys...
Sometimes its the smallest things that drive us nuts.
Anyways, On my 94 Hardbody V6 4x4 the original fan clutch wasn't working property so I swapped it out for a new Shimahide made in Japan fan clutch and was just blown away about how loud it was and how even on the freeway at 65mph in 40 degree weather it was just screaming.
So I changed it with another Shimahide figuring it was defective... same thing
So I changed it again with a Beck Arnley (seems a little better but still way louder)
The power drop between the not working properly fan clutch and the new ones was noticeable. I did avoid any HD fan clutchs for the fear they would lock up even harder in normal conditions.

Here are my reference points for the loud clutch fan that always seems to be engaged
1995 Nissan 240SX KA with the factory mech fan
2001 Infiniti QX4 with the factory mech fan
2000 Infiniti Q45 with the factory mech fan

none of these do the same thing, none are audible on the freeway unless it is really is hot.

Is this normal?

Is the clutch fan locked up engine at cold temperature engine not running? If it’s turning freely I would look in another direction. Possible engine overheating. After the engine reaches operating temperature check the cooling system with a infrared tool. Lot of possibilities.... air flow restriction- restricted coolant flow through cooling system- thermostat defective- radiator cap - you may have to perform a leak down test to rule out a bad head gasket or a internal leak in the cooling system-like a cracked head.

sounds like it's too stiff and is locking up. I had that issue at one point on my Frontier and it sounded like a small airplane at high RPM, and it robbed power.

Find an OEM one. Sorry about all the aftermarket flops.
