When my car is off, i am supposed to be able to physically spin the mech fan with my hand right?

Recently my fan has been making alot of noise, and slowwing down revvs. Im thinking that something is wrong with my fan clutch. What could be wrong with it?

Thanks

I had a problem with my mech fan recently. The clutch died so my car started to overheat in a drive-thru. I like the noise since it lets me know its working. if the weather where you are is getting warmer, you'll probably hear it a lot more.

Sometimes when a fan goes bad it'll stick "on."

The clutch in the fan can go bad though. They are cheap as hell to buy, or you can just wire up the elec. fan which is what a lot of people do. Less weight on the crank and more air thru the radiator.

I understand that with warmer weather ill hear it alot more.

but right now it sounds like an airplane or a mack truck. Plus, i cant spin it with my hand when the engine is off. So i think its seized up or something, anyway, i got another one from a junkyard, ill see if that helps.

I have an electric fan, but im afraid to put it on because i have all kinds of electrical problems right now that i need to sort out first.

If you want you can run the electric fan on a manual switch. Thats what Im doing with my dual altima fans. At first I was kinda afraid Id keep forgetting to shut them off and drain my battery, but It's kind of impossible cause those bastards are loud when the engine is off heh.
