I was wondering if when you measure the valve spring height, if you include the shim thickness too?

Spring height is always measured with only the spring itself.

if you're questioning rogo you may want to have a machinist do the work for you.

first of all why are you wanting to measure the spring height?are you replacing the valve springs? If you are buying new springs then you just measure the spring itself

If you are reusing springs, you need to measure them at a no load height, and then again at a preset height to make sure the spring pressure is within specs. Also use a straight edge to measure the squareness.

I didn't meant it that way. If it's something as important as valve springs, I probably won't go off of just one "opinion". Be it right or not, more "opinions" from different people stating the same facts sounds a lot better to me. I mean no disrespect.

I'm measuring my valve spring to know if I have to buy new springs. I don't like spending money if I don't have to.

Well, going off that, I will get new springs. There are in no way square.

Thanks everyone.
