Hey guys..I got an injector leak. Trying to ohm my injectors, per the online info one of you have supplied. I am getting some pretty high readings on my digital multimeter at the injector harness plug.

1=18.1 7=18.3 6=37.8 4=27.5

8=18.6 3=25.3 5=18.5 2=32.4

AM I doing it right? Key off > neg lead from meter to pin on plug and postive lead on meter to + on battery?

Please & Thankx!

Important to check accuracy of ohmmeter, as old batterry can change readings. Buy a 10 ohm +- 5% resister from radio shack for< $1 and check your meter then replace internal battery.

I would guess your 18 is really 12.

Well..Did that..my multi meter is dead on ..mesured my 10 ohm resistor at 10.1 :-(

Replaced the injector harness two years ago when I had to pull the plenum to go after a fuel leak. Cleaned all the connectors on the injectors at that time.

So what could be giving me such hig readings....unless I am going at it wrong?

Scratching my balding head here..

Things are looking grim Terry. Time to break out a bottle of that scotch and start drowning your sorrows.

I guess at this point you could take off the center ornament cover and measure #1 and #2 injectors directly on their pins, no need to go off the battery. If the readings are the same as the harness readings then you can safely assume the others will be the same. If these are hot measurements try it again in the morning with a cold engine but the readings aren't going to drop that much.

How's your Q running? Like cr@p eh? Gas mileage pitiful? I'm drowning my sorrows with you since I just sent in a fuel rail with injectors for cleaning. I've replaced 4 injectors and a 5th is going bad. Even if you assume the 3 that are ohming at 18 are good the other 5 are definately toast.

In front of the plenum, it's the black plastic piece with the engine decal on it. A couple of 10mm bolts. Once it's off you'll be staring at injectors #1 and #2. Pull off the plug on each and measure the resistance. You'll be done in 10 minutes.

Got that..I assume..(bad word..) measure across the two connecters on the injector?..not to ground..

When ohming the injectors at the connector on the harness I believe you have to have the other three connectos (i.e. 4-pin injector connector, knock sensors, coolant temp, etc.) properly plugged in. May have to do with the ground...

Ok guys.. removed the oranmental cover & read 1 & 2 fine ..

re did the reading from the harness plug, this time with clean connectors and all but injector harness plug, pluged in.

Now getting:

1=13.3 2=18.2 3=50.0 4=22.6

5=13.2 6=30.0 7=14.2 8=13.4

Strangely enough..#3 is the injector we replaced 2 yrs ago.

What ya think?

Ouch - doesn't look good for 3 and 6, and 4 might be on its way.

The early 90-93 injectors don't like ethanol at all.

Need to be new, expecially the fuel lines under the plenum at your car's age.

No mention of FP replacement, conditon of tank when replaced, nor of fuel filter replacement schedule. BG44K? ISO-Heet?

On that subject..what devices are regualting the fuel pressure. I know the two small ones attached to the rails at the fire wall. anything else other the the FP control unit ??

Please & thanks

It's the corn. We use genetically modified seed to grow our own corn to make the ethanol that is added to our fuel. Something in the DNA of that corn seed is screwing with our injectors.

No seriously. It's the cheese.

My Q likes its last tank of fuel from the local Union 76 station. The premium must have been blended wrong and I felt it as soon as I drove off. Like adding a can of BG44K. I should go back and fill up before they get their next shipment. Maybe they were at the low end of the ethanol %?

Perhaps.

I've been noticing when I get a good batch. Sometimes after a good fillup, the Q has a lot more "pep". Like it SHOOTS forward. I wiggle my toes and I'm speeding. Lol.
