By no means do I defend guys like John Hagee. I disagree on almost every theological and doctrinal stance that he preaches. But this was a stupid attempt of the Obama camp to try and catch McCain in the same muck that Obama has been in with Wright. NBC ran a <5 minute blurp about this on Thursday. Its really stupid.1. Hagee is not and was never McCain's "Pastor." Unlike Obama who spent years in the pews listening to Wright.2. Yes, please Obama attack 'evangelicals' (used purely in a political voting sense) and give them a reason to turn out in mass to vote for McCain. Personally, if I were on Obama's campaign committee, I would advise him not to piss off the 'evangelicals' and sail to victory in November.3. The main stream media doesn't really get Televangelists like Hagee. Most Pentecostal, Fundamentalist and certain Evangelical churches have huge problems with the theological stances, doctrinal stances and the history of the Roman Catholic church. This is nothing new and to be honest, when the RCC recants the Council of Trent's condemnation of Protestants... then they can we all can have a dialog on this.4. NBC ran one sentence from one of Hagee's sermon, unlike Hannity and Beck who ran bigger clips of Wright's sermons, and insinuated that he was anti Jew. What they fail to understand is that American Pentecostals, Fundamentalists, Evangelicals and certain Baptists are pro Israel and pro Jew. This can be found in the doctrine of Dispensationalism. Again not a doctrine that Orthodox or Classical Historical Christian teaching and myself embraces. I dont think you can find a bigger supporter of Israel then Hagee in American Christian circles. Again not to defend the man, but that is pretty well established.
