So I've decided that I'm gonna the cheap MB wheels at discounttiredirect.com. I'm trying to pick a wheel and tire size combo. I'd really like to do 17x9 +17 with 245/40 all around...however, I think this is really marginal in terms of clearance in front. Anyone have experience with this size? I'd imagine guys with 17x9 +15 FNs could give me some good advice on tire sizing. I'd be willing to roll my fenders to make them fit, but not pull, and I don't want to run extreme camber. I know orion runs the same width wheel and same tire size but with +25 offset IIRC. The other option is 17x8 +28, kinda highish offset and will definitely be way more sunken than the other ones. I really want to be able to rotate, so a stagger is out of hte question, otherwise i'd just do 8 in front, 9 rear. Anyways, any input guys?

i run the +17's on my S13.

mega pulled rear, pulled front, -2.5 front -1.75 rear with 215/45/17's all around. And my car is slammed. S14's have slightly more wheel room than S13's do. You might want to consider the +27 9" wheel if you want to run a wider tire with less camber.

I doubt that the +27 would clear coils though. Honestly, I think the 17x8 is the best bet, with some nice tires (at least 225) they shoudl look good. If they're too sunken I can get some spacers later on.

do they even make them in 8"? They only made 9" when I was ordering them. What offset are the 8's? Here is a pic of the 17x9 +17 with no spacers. edit: and another;

edit2: as you can see in the first pic, i run stretched tires because my car is so low, it would rub the fender when turning.edit3: just FYI, these wheels are very cheap. the paint will start chipping off before the end of your first week of driving. and i'm not holding my breath about the longevity of these things when used on the track, but so far so good. and i've dirt dropped a few times with them.

they make 17x8 +28...yea yea, weak offset, but I'm going for more of a daily/grip setup, if i drift ill prolly just use my stock SE wheels to save my tires. Kinda sucks about the paint chipping off...thats pathetic. If you ever happen to take any close pics of the wheels to show clearance or something, I'd be interested to see hwo bad the paint is. Peace

I just read in another thread that someone got the MB wheels and the metal seems real thin...I don't want to worry about bending these thigns, I think I may just have to go with FN01s Mabye i'll buy somehting used instead

To me it *seemed* thin, but they appear to hold up well enough. I personally know someone who tracks his S14 with those wheels, and they appear to hold up. $250 something shipped for the pair is a hard price to beat.

yeah, i read that too. thats why i added that after dirt dropping several times, and off roading a couple times too, they are still fine. i mean, if you hit a curb, then yeah, of course the wheel will be trashed. maybe thats what they were getting at? Plus who was he to judge what a 'real thin' wheel is. The MB's have way thicker spokes than my FN's do. and there are 7 of them compared to 5 on the FN's.

Oh yeah, and there is miles of caliper clearance and strut clearance on the 17x9 +17. YMMV on the 8" wheel though. get those with some 10mm spacers and it will look good enough to pull you up from the ocean floor.

I want wheels that can stand basic daily driving and some autoX and mountain roads, I don't plan on any offroad drifting attacks or anything. I'm pretty cautious on public streets. Also, I'm working on getting Q45 brakes in, so caliper clearance isnt much of an issue. Eventually I would love to get KTS coils if I can save up enough, so I need wheels that'll clear 'em. I wish I knew how my car will wear tires b/c then i could decide if the ability to rotate them will really matter.

Now I'm thinking 17x8 +28 with 235/45/17 f, 17x9 +27 with 255/40/17 r. If I don't like how they look I can get spacers, but I've seens pics of the FNs on an S14 (17x8 +25 f, 17x9 +35 r) and I really liked how they fit. So if anything, mine will be slihgtly more sunken in front and more flush in the rear, but I doubt that 3 mm makes a difference at all.

Do they make them in a 4x114.3 lug pattern or is it strictly a 5 bolt wheel. I know I had been looking at their Competition model in 17x9 but couldn't find it in 4 lug, yet the picture in the catalog had a 4 lug.

Balilover, strictly 5 lug at this point, i havent seen any 4 lug versions, ive been keeping an eye out though... and i have 245/45s all around and i have fairly significant rubbing issues up front even with 2 degrees of camber... mind you i dont have coilovers, i have a 3 1/2" drop from sprint springs and agxs, but the tire is a big tire for the front... i like it though next up is to relocate the front end wiring harness and roll the fenders.

Wow, checked out your pics. Those sidewalls are square! A roll would be good though since all it does is give you more clearance, no downside really. Also, a 3.5" drop is quite a bit. Mind sharing your wheel size and offset? I'm guessing 17x8 +25, but not sure. I really don't know what I want to do at this point, I'm trying to avoid spacers. Probably either 17x8 +28 225/45 all around, that in front and 17x9 +27 245/40 in back, or 17x9 +17 245/40 all around (unlikely though, it would probably have clearance issues). Basically its rotation vs. bigger meats out back...and I've seen both setups done so much that its hard to pick. We shall see...

the 7 spokes have no 4x114.3 sizes at all.

the 5 spokes come in 17x7 +35 and 17x8 +35 for 4 lug, but those sizes are no good. there is 4 lug (and 5 lug) 16x7 +25 and 16x8 +25. the 8's would ok all around (still kinda weak), but discount doesn't carry any of these. i don't know if anyone imports those sizes.
