Just picked up a copy of Siphon it's mostly focused on the new 2008 xB and a few articles on the 1 gen. box and of course the Fit and Yaris but anyways I noticed on the News page the Mazda 2 is it just m or does it look like a Versa/Fit/Yaris all mixed up...

I just got that mag. yesterday my self, I was looking at that mazda 2 an it has styling from all the major imports, idk about it yet. Looks a little cluttered. We'll have to wait an see how it turns out for the US market.

Nismo V I need your help there is a white Honda Fit that they have done a write up on I think it's the Showstopper USA, but they have some fog lights on it look like canisters with a chrome ring about it. I can't find them anywhere. I can't even find a picture of that car to post.. please if you can help!!!

It looks more like a Proton than anything else. but I do see a little V in the rear design.

Someone at Mazda needs to be smacked.

The 3, 6, RX8, and even MPV look good.

The 2, 5, CX-7, and CX-9 look terrible.

Are they handing off every other design to drug-altered monkeys?

The 2 has a lot of Korean-esque creasing and bulging that's absolutely unnecessary and absolutely hideous. What the crap is going on at the bottom of the doors?Change the shape of the grille and emblems and it could pass as a Kia. That's NOT a good thing.Anyone else notice how the line of the shoulder-bulge doesn't match the door handle it intersects? Not the best attention to detail...I expect better from Mazda.

And once again with those damned fender repeaters. Looks so CHEAP. If I want randomly placed white lamps that look like they came from an Ace Hardware bin, I'll go buy a utility truck.

Not a fan of the bubbly center console, either. It's not helping the driver having controls curving AWAY from the driver seat! Function > form. Especially when that particular form also happens to look dumb.Also, anyone who has ever owned a car with round vents can tell you how irritating they are. Regular old-fashioned vents are FAR simpler (read: quicker and less distracting from the important task at hand: driving) to use (flip the vent to aim it right, instead of having to spin the damn thing 180*). Round vents looked cool 5+ years ago when they were a "new" thing. Now they're everywhere, and less functional than the good old rectangular mainstays.And again with the dash-mounted shifter. Not comfortable at all! I'm not a grandma. Don't make me lean forward like one.

And keep in mind all this negativity is coming from a Mazda guy.

Yeah... I find the color intriguing and... *gasp* very cute. I don't know if this is more because I don't feel that the V comes in a good choice of color (white, black, and two greys don't count as colors) ... I would've considered a car this color if it weren't for the fact that I needed to make a car into a camel.

i usually dont write in this forum because i dont own a versa, was going to. but since there is a mazda being discussed im gonna put in my 2cents. i honestly like the car. it looks like all the super compact cars put together. kind of reminds me of a four door yaris. not really feelin the interior but its a minor flaw i think they are currently being sold in Australia, wonder if anybody modded it yet! i remember when the v first came out and all over the forums people were complaining how ugly and tacky it is. mostly coming from the scion owners. so its kind of amusing that i get to see the situation play out agian. anyway, yea i like the car.

theyare making the mazda2 here beause ford is bringing over the ford fiesta from europe( realated cars). both are gnna be in the same class as the yaris/versa/fit

About the 2, you can see a lot of the Versa in the tail end IMHO. I agree that the front looks a lot like the 3rd gen Eclipse. That chartreuse color makes me want to barf, though.

I thought that the Focus was supposed to be in competition with the Fit/Versa/Yaris? Or does Ford consider the Focus to be more in competition with the Civic/Corolla/Sentra these days?

The Focus is losing the hatch and wagon for 08. I guess that puts it with the Sentra by default.

The Mazda2 here looks like it could have some blind spots as bad as the 3 door Focus. I nearly ran someone off the road test driving that.

They're going to release a stripped down Mazda 2 and call it the Fiesta... not sure if that's going to be 08 or 09.

I just know that's why they discontinued the focus hatch. Having a 2 year lag though? Bad idea.

idk bout u guys but i think they made the mazda 2 look kick ***, and from my point of view its getting its body style from the peugeot 206 and 207. But i honestly think its a pretty nice car.

Couldn't disagree with you more. I have round vents on my Vibe and they are the best vents of any car I've ever had. When closed they actually stop ALL air from coming out of that vent. Plus I can actually direct the airflow EXACTLY where I want it to be. They are far better than the vents on my Versa.

Again I disagree. The Vibe has the forward mounted shifter and it is placed so that it opens up more room between the seats for the cup holders (unlike the reach around the gearshift you have to do with the Versa). And I can reach the shifter just fine without doing an imitation of your grandma.

according to Car and Driver Ford will use this same platform and revive the Festia model in 09 in the USA. It is in the Aug.2007 magazine.
