I hate you, you lucky h0m0 :D

I would love to have an RX-8, but I cannot justify spending that much money when there are so many sweeter rides that can be had for soooooo much cheaper (MKIV Supra, FD, TII, R32, 10 S13's, etc)

I wish I worked at a mazda, nissan, subaru or dealership along those lines, but nope, I work at the trusty mopar dealership. So the best thing I've driven there is an SRT-4.

I'd rather get a G35coupe, hands down. That car is pimp.

The one thing I don't like is how you can pull out the backseat doors. Seems like it isn't very good for the overall structure of the car but of course I could be wrong but that was my interpretation. There are other things like how the Rx7 was a TT while this one is NA. Plus if something ever goes wrong I think the dealership will be asking for more than your bank account, mind as well give them your soul heh.

It was funny how I visited the Mazda site and everything was like lightweight this and lightweight that. Seems like the car is so lightweight that it can fly. Funny thing too is you don't see too many car companies going after the Rotary engine. I am noticing lots of car companies going after AWD.

Mind as well get a G35 like everyone else says IMO.

The engine might be light, but the RX-8 isn't exactly petite. According to the Mazda site, the car weighs in a little bit over 3000 lbs.

Have you ever sat in an RX8? For how roomy it is in the backseat, the suicide doors are well-justified. VERY comfortable.

Is twin turbo better than N/A? Can you list the reasons why TT is superior? Speed? The N/A RX8 puts out 250hp, the FDRX7 turbo puts out 255hp. I'd say pretty damn good for N/A. We wont even discuss the 200hp FCRX7 turbo.

Not that funny, but to each his own. You dont see too many car companies going rotary because it is innovative, unconventional. No cylinders, no overhead cams. But the design in incredible. Have you ever seen a rotary engine in action? Its cyclic inertia allows it to accelerate faster compared to the pistons of conventional Japanese engines going up and down. The rotary is physically more efficient. Also you shouldn't make conclusions based on what everyone else is doing. Just because Mistu, Toyota, Nissan, and Honda aint going this direction, it doesnt mean its poor design. You are thinking like the average scared ignorant consumer, no like an engineer/enthusiast. And your AWD comment was totally irrelevant.

Again, you're thinking like an ignorant consumer who is too lazy to research. It like a consumer buying BMWs because of German engineering and reliability and prestige general conceptions and rumors. And by research, I'm talking about neutral third party sources, not the Mazda website.

EDIT: I chose the G35 because I think it looks A LOT better and there are a lot less problems with maintaining a conventional DOHC V6 (i.e. mechanic availability). Im also not much of a fan of the RX8's interior. And the G35 is beefier of course. And it is pimp.

ok now I was just putting my opinions. Do you understand opinions? You should go look it up in a dictionary. Additionally, if you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all. I didn't say this is a fact. Did I mention it is a poor design? Nooooo I just thought it was strange. I cannot stand people like you on forum boards. I find it rude how people like you like to bash people.

I think many RX-7 fans were hoping for a car that was a true sports car. 255 hp is nice and all, but don't forget the rather anemic 164 ft lbs of torque.

The RX-8 is definitely an impressive piece of engineering, but I don't think it quite lives up to the RX-7 heritage. Hell, I don't really think it was intended to. I think the RX-8 will appeal to many folks who would have never owned an RX-7.

I'm sorry if i offended you, but the points i have made were not intended to slander anyone's character. It may easily be interpreted as so, but if you read closely, it only attacks ignorance at most. Just laying down RX8's strong points to halt misinformation.

Yes you have opinions and I have mine. I am entitled to attack your opinions as much as you are entitled to express them on this message board, so long as I do not "flame" anyone. I did not "bash people", just your remarks. Try not to take my remarks so personally, as I have nothing against you.

So, who here has seen em on the streets? I havent seen it, but i did see the new Nissan Quest today....

Since when have bmws been reliable (or most german cars)? Last time I checked they got preaty low ranks from consumer reports. That's why they don't even recommend the new 3 series (5 series I think was average)

the honda s2000 is a convertible and yet you can ask anyone and they'll tell you its more stable than any other convertible out there. And in its class in SCCA, its dominating the G35, camaro SS 300z, porsche carreras(plural,) and MR2 turbos.

the rx8 also happens to the same beam support thing in the rear that makes it super stable.

also, if 99.9% of the cars on the street are piston engines, who's gonna gonna be different and start producing rotary engines? almost no one. look how everyone makes parts for a civic as opposed to a good car like a 240.

a rotary engine is going to be more reliable because its rotor is only going to go in one direction; a piston engine is always moving and stopping and moving again. it has too many parts as opposed to the rotary engine's 3 moving parts. . . total. less power loss. . .

i'm always in awe of the rotary engine. if you think about it, this puppy makes 192 horsepower per liter. . .

i'm just waiting for them to twin turbo this puppy :ylsuper

oh yeah, no company is gonna release the first year production car to be the most bad @$$ car on the market. there's no way they can make money from that. just wait and see how far the rx8 can go. . .

of course, it could go straight down the toilet cause the engine turns out to be a dud and 99.9% of mechanics can't work on it. . .

Not BMWs, but some German cars are pretty damn reliable. I know from personal experience that some MercedesBenzes will last and run strong with fewer problems than some of the Japanese cars I've had experience with.

my dad owns a 2001 bmw 330i which in my opinion is a very hot car. and yes there have been a few problems with it like right now its in cause some sensor in the ignition is bad so it cant read the laser incripted key correctly(neat). but id like to see a nissan or honda dealership send u flowers and wash ur car for u when in for service. conclusion: yea BMWs are less reliable but u get treated with alotta respect at the dealership and they will go the extra mile to make sure u have a good experiance with them. also, there is ALOT more technology that goes into these expensive luxury sedans and that means there are more places for error.

I also saw the Quest today, not to bad looking. kind of looks like the murano, but a little biger and with harder lines. If i was married and my wife wanted a minivan i would get it, because i know i would get stuck driving it some time.

Most of them aren't as reliable as japanese cars. The VW GTI was rated the least reliable car, and preaty much all VW. The Audi TT got terrible marks on reliability (same chassis as GTI, Beetle), the Beetle was placed with the camaro/firebird as "most unreliable cars". The only car I can remember in the VW/Audi/Porsche family that got good marks was the boxster. Only new BMW that was decent was the 5 series. I don't remember much about benzs but I think they probably did the best, with maybe one model to stay away from. The older german cars are more reliable for some reason, I guess because theres less technological crap in them to go wrong. Example: the E36 bmws are some of the most reliable bmws built, and the 318 will run forever. I see many used bmws/benzs for sale in my paper (older ones) with 100,000 miles or more, sometimes over 200,000 miles. The early 80s porsche 911 SC will easily go to 200,000 miles and I seen one really trashed one on ebay once with over 300,000. But it's hard to name an unreliable japanese car. Mistubishi maybe but aren't they american? Chrysler or something? Honda Passport was the only japanese car on consumer reports "stay away from" list

The only German company putting out cars that do well in consumer reports is Porsche. I just read today that Porsche has the highest marks in consumer reports for reliability, followed immediately by Toyota, then Honda, then Nissan. After that is GM, a few more companies, then Mitsubishi, Ford, DaimlerChrysler, BMW, the rest of the German cars, and then the Korean cars. GM beat all of the German companies besides Porsche. What is the world coming to?

I just saw a show on the rx8 on the new TNN, the car is pretty sweet and has a 9k rpm redline. The suspension on it is quite impressive and it was riding on rails on the track. The downside is 150 torque so high rpm's are a must to see the power out of it.

The rx-8 only has like 160 torque. Motortrend compared its powerband to an s2000. Theyre gutless untill about 6000 rpms then they fly. My friend has to launch his s2000 at 7000 rpms or it will bog. He burned through the stock potenzas in two months so he put cheap khumos on, big mistake he cant get any traction now. But in that thing its easy to lose traction. even with little to no torque its still amzingly fast if you keep it in the upper rpms.
