Ok so on the consumerist.comhttp://consumerist.com/5007542...-carsthen more infohttp://www.wired.com/science/d...e=all

What a waste... this is still 2nd place to the biggest automotive waste ever IMHO.. That is perfectly depicted in "Who Killed The Electric Car" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0489037/

(if you never saw the movie, rent it please. It shows very clearly, that cash is king, and the power of big business pushing mother nature out of the way for a larger profits to be made by the super-rich-powerful...)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Motors_EV1Check out some of the ads (that GM was forced to make) look like... hmm.. did they WANT this car to sell.. (obviously not)

Leasers wanting to purchace the car were denied, $1m for 1 car was denied.. they were all scrapped... in the biggest automotive cover-up....

it would appear that mazda did the right thing in this case. any vehicle exposed or potentially submerged in saltwater at any point is a hazard, from hydrolocked engines to pitting in cylinders to failed electronics or airbags that fire with no warning due to corroded or shorted wires.

its safer to have the cars destroyed and remade then to do anything else, incase it gets to the general public, or so high school autotechs dont get hurt by unexpected surprises.

i'm thinking insurance woulda kicked in so mazda wouldn't have lost 100 mill just like that but they did the right thing ..... rather than risking lawsuits later on which would kill their pockets and reputation for being shady

Wired Magazine Article wrote:The insurers of a disabled ship with valuable cargo will offer from 10 to 70 percent of the value of the ship and its cargo to anyone who can save it. If the salvage effort fails, they don't pay a dime.
That wired magazine article is amazing, read it a while ago. they still received 10 mil for saving the cargo, even though they were scrapped.

And honestly, like most others are saying, scrapping them was the best thing they could have done...

I wonder if Mazda's insurance reimbursed them for the loss of all the vehicles they crushed or if they simply did it to avoid lawsuits.

i remember cut blocks in my HS automotive class... and many things that would never see the road, but were for explanation purposes... Im sure that many places could have used the parts for DEMONSTRATION purposes only and whatnot... maybe im wrong...

If you don't show a complete loss insurance wont cover it. Plus there insurance probably didn't want the liability...Its a numbers game, believe me if Mazda just took a loss here there stockholders would be up in arms!

WORD LBC!!!!!!! Great movie If you don't see "Who Killed..." then you're totally missing out.

BTW- Mazda could have collected their insurance, AND made sure those cars went to CTE classes to teach kids about automotive tech.
