Car: 1992 Infiniti G20 - 200k - need help

Post

Greetings fellow G20 lovers! I am the one who has a '92G20 that has been sitting up for the past 3 years. I decided to determine how much fuel was left in the tank, so I rigged a good battery to the cables, and turned on the ignition - too far. The car actually cranked and continued to run - sounding like it did the last time I heard it run, though. - strong valve knock, and very unsteady idle. I gave it a little gas and it sputtered just like it did prior to it being "abandoned". Time to get the gas out. Don't try to siphon the gas out since it has the "anti-gas theft" device at the entrance to the tank proper.

I removed the gas by disconneccting the fuel line at the fuel rail (filter still in-line), and used a hand pump to pull the gas out. I did test the fuel pump by turning on the ignition and trying to crank the car, but found out the fuel pump still works - and works very well!. The hose flew out of the bucket I was draining the gas to and waved around like a fire hose sans the fireman. OK. Well, anyway - I got a total of 6 gallons of fuel out by the hand pump method.

I pulled the valve cover to see if there was anything obvious. I couldn't tell one way or the other. I've decided the easiest and most cost effective way to deal with this is to put another engine in the car. I bought one off e-bay for $375 + $200 shipping. Not bad. If anyone is still interested, I'll keep up the thread. Otherwise, I'll go on and just fix the car up (new seats arrived today). - Thanks. -
