I took a look at Carl H write up on retro fitting a J30 ignitor and notice that I think I don't have an rb20 ignitor. I use the car mainly for drifting and on Saturday everything was all good and then on my last run the car started to miss around 4k rpms and is really pronounced under more open throttle. I did the whole run down on racebread for the RB20 sputter problem, everything except the igniter.

This is my set upI have a rb26 coilpack harness, because mine was a bit messed up. The car had been running great until this Saturday.

I'm not real sure how to test the igniter, nor do I know if I even have an RB20 one. From what I heard mine looks more like a 300zx or J30. If you guys could give me a run down on how to use the multi-meter to test it that would be awesome. I'm going to a Nopi Drift Qualifier on Sunday and really need my car.

it may be that your coils are overheated and becoming unstable. it's typical.

The only two things I have not check on are the igniter and timing.

if you have a miss at 4k check the engine coolant temp sensor...if a new ect doesnt fix it then try an ignitor.

Coolant Temp Sensor did not fix it and I have played with the timing, b/c I have no timing light and nothing is seeming to smooth it out. I saw somewhere that you(Carl) said the charging system isn't enough for e-fans so I made sure my battery is fully charged and still nothing.

This sucks. I hate not being able to figure something out on my own.

Oh and if you look at the wires my plugs haven't been repinned and I have been running that igniter since the day I got the car. It looks like I have a rb25 igniter, how has it been working?

Well I read through the whole igniter chip swap and it appears that my is set up for a z32. So I'm going to try and get a vg30 one from someone and see if thats it.

swapped mine and it fixed it too. mine use to start up fine, than if you rev it it start to sputter at around 3k, and if you start driving it'll sputter-backfire-than die. haha. all happend within 10 minutes of driving.

z32 ignitor swap fixed that problem for me.
