About two weeks ago I noticed a knocking sound when I pull out from 1st or 2nd gear. If I pull out super super slow the sound will not occur. It only happens for about 2 seconds when gaining speed from 0-15 then the car is super smooth. The sound seems to be coming from directly under the center glove compartment. The best way to describe it is if someone was taking a hammer and hitting the bottom of my car about 6 times each take off. Any help is appreciated thank you!

Sure sound like a jacked up u-joint. My mustang did the same thing when one of the u-joints "fell out" except that the noise was constant. If you jack it up and look underneath it should be fairly obvious if there's a problem with the drive shaft, i.e. it will be hanging weird, etc. Could be a problem with the center carrier bearing, unless you have a one-piece driveshaft.

Update: I jacked up my car and looked at the universal joint and it seems to be in good condition. I also tested running the car while it was jacked up and there is no noise. So my conclusion is that it is only while there is a large amount of torque on the car that this sound occurs. So if this helps anyone figure out what I should check next please let me know ! Thank you in advance !

The car has a fair amount of torque but a noise like that isn't exactly normal. Does the transmission seem ok? Could be a suspension or steering piece as well, possibly a worn bushing.

Hey, thanks for the fast response. The transmission seems to be in good condition as there is no problem going between gears. Also I don't get what anything with steering would have to do with this since the noise happens consistently whether I'm on a straight road taking off or turning while taking off. I do however think that my suspension is starting to go bad but I dont see why such a noise is being caused by that. Also how would I go about checking this.

The reason I said steering or suspension bushing going back is because it happens when you accelerate. So when you take off the whole car pulls forward with force. If some bushings were shot it would make a noise because metal would be hitting metal instead of being cushioned by the bushing. If you have stock bushings, they are most likely shot by now. If, for example, your rear bushing were toast and you accelerated moderately fast, the vibrations from the rear end could make odd noises because the bushings aren't dampening it anymore.

Check your differential bushings, they will make all kind of noises when bad, subframe bushings will make odd noises as well. You can really tell when the differential bushings are bad, switching gears will make a thud.
