Hello All,

First off, you have a great forum here! I have gotten gobs of info, so thank you for everything so far.

I recently moved to Florida (from NYC) and am going to look at a 2000 Q45 with 160k on the clock, apparently one family car (passed from father to adult son).

Everything that I have gleaned thus far is these are a pretty solid car, with no great achilles heels, so what should I keep an eye out for besides the regular stuff you look for on 17 year old car? Also, how hard are these to work on? I'm a pretty advanced shade tree mechanic and like to handle most maintenance myself if possible.

These cars kind of have me intrigued, so even if this particular one falls through, I may shift my focus to Q45's in general and see if I can get a minter.

Thanks In Advance,

Elliot

This is not a simple car to work on, but it is also the the toughest. I have zero mechanical ability so you cannot go by me, I add wiper fluid and gas treatment and then I'm out.

With 160 on the clock I would look for:
1. Suspension, if this is the "adjustable" suspension then it is probably history unless repair/fixed. If it is a standard suspension you still need to find out if they have replaced the front struts and rear shocks. If they have not they are shot and you have very little choice on replacement as there is very little aftermarket support for the car.
2. Knock sensors, O2 sensors and coil packs, these are pretty common at this mileage, see if they have been done
3. Steering rack, if original make sure there are no leaks

Overall this is a super solid car that is very reliable. Check these and then you know what you have to invest right away.

Let me/us know this info and we can advise.

You should read this thread as the 1997 is the same generation car as the 2000 you are considering. I bought a 2000 last year and list the things that I have fixed in a post in the thread.
