Being I can’t find any complete kits that aren’t lowered coilovers, I’m getting eager to find something that may substitute it. I’ve looked up models like the QX4 and FX models that have a few aftermarket assemblies, without the spindle. Which is what I need to essentially bolt it onto the existing one.

Having to compress the springs to take on/off adds extra cost. I get away with the rear ones like that, but the fronts have a lot of weight.

I’m on the sites to see if there’s matching upper strut mounts, that way I can find the best fit. Anyone open to help find some that may match? I don’t have active suspension either so hopefully I can get around it.

Here is an example of what I refer to. Infiniti parts shows a picture of a q45 strut without a spindle. And it also shows a QX4 that can be ordered without a spindle. I would probably use a different seller like on eBay that includes the whole spring and mount kit. But there does seem to be a difference in weight and dimensions, but I don’t know if that’s due to the weight of the spindle hmm…

Japanese car. They still sell plenty of suspension stuff for your car in Japan. Shipping is your enemy.

Yes, I’m working on it currently trying to come up with a couple solutions. I’ve checked that site but also seeing about a complete kit. I’m just leery that another aftermarket coil over kit will fit properly. Especially since I can’t install it myself. Trying to stick with OEM and save the Springs, but I feel a full kit will get the best solid feel.

The fact you are considering shocks from another vehicle is downright bulls. The model Q45 you are running has plenty of aftermarket support. Yahoo.co
Jp everyday suspension for your car.

The reason why, I was hoping to come up with a full kit with the springs, bearing and boots already on them. It was looking like, some models the strut kit could be bolted or welded on to the spindle. Because non of the other Infiniti models beyond the Q45 and M45 come with spindles on their shocks.

I was going to consider a lowering kit, but my commute is best had with some clearance. Even an inch drop might not be too forgiving.

However, I ended up just sourcing OEM from overseas. It’s actually less than what I paid getting it from Infiniti online a few years ago. The shipping is high, but the part itself is reasonable.

My shocks aren’t bouncing on the highway, but they are not handling city streets very well. After 6 winters and some asinine pot holes, they are ready to go.

Just wanted to follow back up: can someone remind me what I need regarding KYB inserts? Someone said yahoo.jp but I can’t read anything on there in Japanese lol.

I ordered some shocks from Amayama for a great price, $80 each plus shipping= $400 some bucks and paid, then a couple/few weeks later after waiting I get an email saying they aren’t available and was refunded. I’m also seeing Japan isn’t shipping anything to the United States for us. Thanks Trump 😑

I have isolated that my front passenger shock is GONE. I am trying to find the best kit possible without too many Modifications. One place offered to sell me aftermarket racing just the fronts, but I just don’t know if I want to go that route. One it’s expensive, and 2 I don’t want lowered. They also look thin and flimsy. Like occasional use, not for regular Highway trips.

I’m just so annoyed that I’ve been left in the dark on shock absorber kits. The Maxima, I30 and QX4 all have available kits. I’m wondering if I should just try the other models, but not having a strut off where I can see and take apart is the issue

Out of curiosity, Do you not want to be lowered for ride quality or appearance reasons? I got the BC coilovers over 5 years ago and have had a good overall experience with them. Stock ride height is pretty much 'school bus' high.

Just seeing your response:

Being I do a lot of highway driving, I don’t want to be lowered even more considering the stuff I often have to drive over.

Also, I had brought a 4 set of shocks meant for lowering and idk but: the mechanic could not install them. Even unscrewed as far as it could go. He told me I would then need the whole lowered suspension kit, and I’ve already replaced a few control arms. I ended up having to box it back up and return on eBay, which was a disaster because I almost didn’t even get my full refund back. I was glad to found it because it was a lot cheaper than the BC coilovers, but I just don’t have the techs in my area to do that kind of modification. And my tires are stock, I would have little room in my wheel well.

I kinda prefer the school bus height lol, but consider it the right height for distance traveling. Especially when everyone around me has pickup trucks.

Right now I’m still in a bind looking for struts. One site would send it to me from Japan, but it would be $1,000 for just 2 front strut assembly but no parts. Another company offered to sell me 2 coilovers for about $800.

My other vehicles have quick strut options, but I’m stuck with discontinued or having to spend extra labor and parts. And right now, the passenger front strut is BAD BAD lol. I am running thin on time to replace, as I’ll definitely need a new set before rainy season and winter sets in.

The suspension has been the only real challenge I've had with this car related to parts. I bought my car in 2019 and it was in dire need of struts. I'm pretty sure it's why the previous owner unloaded it. Stock isn't an option. eBay is just untrustworthy for this. BC I found to be my only viable option, but as you say, it doesn't really suit your needs. My tires are 245/45/19 all around and I drive on the highway a lot, but I live in the South. No snow. I should rotate my tires more often. I do remember my installer needed to do minor mods when installing the coilovers but nothing too crazy. I don't remember the specifics now. Mine are set as high as they go and I can still clear a parking block, if that helps.

I see…

Well I haven’t swore off the coilovers just yet, however I’m not too crazy about the price of them. I have seen a YouTube video below where a guy manages to fix a front strut with a Chevy lumina insert lol. However I’m considering the actual cartridge thru Infiniti and maybe seeing if I can cross reference something similar.

My issue is: I have to have this work done at a shop. No spring compressor and tools at home aren’t strong enough to break loose suspension bolts. So taking it to a shop to have them “put together” something can be tricky, if they want to do it at all. That’s why I’m open to go with the most complete part available. But spending $800 on struts when I know the labor and alignment will be $400/$500 is just not in my budget.

I think I’m just going to go the cheap makeshift route and call it:
