May be a dumb question, but when using an SDS

Do you remove the stock ECU completely? Or is it required for other functions? I'm just curious thats all... I thought I was sure the stock ECU would not be required, as all the ECU does is run the engine, which the SDS will be doing... but I thought maybe the ECU did a few other things... was just curious.

Thanks,

it does not retain the factory ecu. its a stand-alone system. its nice cos it lets you do anything and everything to the engine. id get one if i wasnt broke. (sorry dee! lets bank on doing it in august.)

Well I already have one (EM3, thx Ray), but I just wasn't sure... I'm familiar with the ECU control in Nissans, it basically controls just the engine itself... I'm just curious about other things after the removal of the ECU... starting, Speedometer (electric, not cable), etc... other systems like that. Wasn't sure if they went through the ECU or if the ECU simply monitored those values...

im not sure, but the sds has a closed loop start up map (im guessing) and then switches out when it finishes that sequence. i do know that the speedo works after an sds is put in...but even my mom probably knows that...its 4-20, im waay to stoned to answer coherently...illtry though..- tim

I'm just not very electrically inclined... I'm a good mechanic... just not too good with anything electrical. =( So I just wasn't sure.

You don't have to worry about your Speedo, as the signal feeds the cluster, then the ECU. I'm not sure about that tac, but I though that it got it's signal from the CAS and if you remove it, i'm not sure how you'd have an RPM signal. Dee would probabally be the best guy to answer that part of it.

Rpm signal gets fed off the green wire on the SDS coilpack module. Try it any other way and Racetec will gladly sell you another coilpack module after you burn this one out. You must run that green wire to the wire that controls your tach on the little white dash connector. I would personally remove all the ecu harness on the KA24's engine to ecu harness and join the SDS in with that, so you can make some money back by selling the CA stuff. You do not need to mutt-out the CA harness to make the SDS work with your car.

Yeah the EFI harness is completely out of the car... no ECU, no Harness... which is why I was asking how I was going to get signal for some things... Thx Dee.

I saw Ray's system! He did not use a cold start actuator, so you won't have fast cold start either, unless he had the module and never installed it. If you use the ka's, it would help you out even more. Ditch the ecu in the passenger's compartment as there is no room for it anymore.

Well view my other post... its not a S chassis or a KA motor that used to be there... lol
