Like the subject line says, can anyone tell me from experience what the maximum mounting depth for the door on the J is? I really don't want to do anything to the door panel. Is 3 inches going to hit the window when down?

probably 2-1/2" or 2-3/4" at most. I have the kappa 60.5cs in they are 2-3/16" and have a little bit of room left...

What did you need to do to mount a 6.5, in terms of alterations to mounting hole?

well if you take off the door panel you will see that the speaker is just a 4" speaker that is housed in a giant plastic piece along with the bose amp. You can remove all this and then get a piece of MDF or just plywood that is 1/4" or 1/2" thick and then cut it to fit over the opening. Then you just need to measure the size of the speaker and cut a hole in the middle of the board and just drop it right in and then screw it down. Worked out perfectly for me.

btw, Sound domain says that the 60.5 has a 2.06 mounting depth - so im thinking theres no way I can get a 2.75, judging by how much room you think is left from you 60.5s

okay...i thought they were 2-3/16" but i gues its 2-1/16" i couldnt remember. Anyway you could fit 2-1/2" in there most likely but if you want to be absolutely positive you can remove the door panel and check it out...i think there is like a little less than 3" of room.

Yeah, I just haven't had the time. I will do it over Thanksgiving and post it. Still collecting peices and waiting to put the whole system in at once. Probably will get it in over winter break - that way I can save money and do the install myself.

I just realized what the speaker assembly looks like in the front door - I was picturing something wholly different - the setup is alot easier to change speaker sizes than I imagined.

I still need components, I was all set to get the Kappa Perfect 6.1s and then I heard so many good things about the CDT Cl-61s (and they're alot cheaper) - now I have to figure out what I can fit.
