Anyone know the recommended or maximum replacement interval for the external transmission oil filter on a 1994 Q45? Would a clogged filter cause any damage?

I would guess 60,000-100,000 miles IN A PROPERLY OPERATING transmission that has seen regular{25-30K} fluid replacements from brand new. When the filter becomes clogged it goes into bypass mode, allowing unfiltered atf to circulate thru system along with normal wear particles causing abrasive wear to all internal transmission components and these small particles can clump together eventually and begin to clog the internal filter screen.

Simple to replace part-order from joe at everythinginfiniti

That sounds reasonable, I wonder what they go for? Still cheaper than a new transmision I suppose.

Never and yes.

Someone mentioned another Pure or other 3rd party filter that would fit.

The filter "kit" was around $75 when I gt mine from Joe a few years ago.The kit includes the sealed filter assembly with internal filter element and new mounting bracket along with new hoses-

A Magnefine filter {about $15} could be plumbed in as a cheaper aftermarket alternative, but would require you to add in a T fitting to split the output of filter to mate with the input hoses of both in-radiator heat exchangers, certainly not a hard thing to do and the low price of the filter would encourage more frequent filter swaps.

For the true car crazy, the magnefine filter also works well when plumbed into the power steering return line- protecting the pump and rack

There is a good video floating around youtube of a magnefine filter install tutorial on a g35 transmission for those who want to see how easy it could be to add this to their car
