trying to figure out if/what would be the maximum you can bore a vh45de to. i've tried to find this using the search feature, but have had no luck. would i have to resleeve the block in order to gain a larger bore? thanks in advance.

FSM lists a 0.2 mm [0.0079"] overbore piston taking the nominal 3.6608" to a max of 3.6697".

The cast liners are 3mm thick as per Nissan. Maybe, you could get by with a 95.5mm bore and use the pistons for the VQ35DE.

The question is: "How much aluminum is behind the iron liners?" I would definitely have the block sonic tested before any deep cutting.

I wouldn't go over .060" without sleeving on an engine that will see some power/performance usage.. I don't care how thick the liners are, I've seen some badddd things happen to .060" bored "stock replacement" alum motors of all kinds.

wow .2mm sure isn't very much. thats hardly even honing out the bores. it would be nice to be able to go a little more than that. a 95.5mm bore would be nice just to have the piston choices of the vq35. are there any after market forged vq30det pistons available? i know there are tons for the vq35, but i don't feel like spending tons on custom forgings for the vh45de.

Custom pistons actually aren't all that bad. There are some good places that you could probably get 8 pistons for in the range of 800-1000 dollars. BRC Performance makes good pistons at a good price. There's another one out there but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. I'll find it and post it here.

thats a little more like as far as price goes. i would just like to drop the compression down a little if i could so i can run a little more boost, and not fear the dreaded detnation. i'll have to look them up

.060" is 1.5mm, so you would be cutting the sleeve thickness in half supposedly.

1.5mm of sleeve isn't a lot to go with. i wouldn't feel very comfortable with that little material personally. i know je pistons had quoted me a price of around 1400.00 a while back for a set of pistons on a different project. it looks like a set of customes are going to be the way to go.does anyone know much about the vq30det pistons. i tried searching for info but i was really needing compression hieght, materials they are made from, dome or dish sizes ect....
