Maxima V6 into a Chevy II

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

I am new to this site. I have a 1962 Chevy II (Nova) and am thinking of installing the V6 out of my 1993 Maxima.

The injectors need to be replaced, but otherwise the engine is great. Great mileage, and can still scream when you want to.

I have installed a new subframe onto the front of the Chevy II. I was going to go with a little Chevy V6, but I would really like to install the Maxima engine. I would use all of the electronics from the Maxima.

My question is, I would like to use an automatic transmission and am wondering if there is a particular transmission I should be looking for. I was thinking that the Z cars had automatics and they are real wheel drive.

I know about Chevys, but am not as sharp about Nissans. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Uh...

62 Nova=RWD93 Maxima=FWDPutting a FWD engine in a RWD car=Very bad idea...I don't even know if that's possible.

I understand you are trying to be creative...trying to do something unheard of but really, it's not worth it imo. You're better off just dropping a Chevy V8 in that thing.

But if you still want to be unique, just get a VH45, or a VQ35 from an automatic 350Z. Maybe even a VK56...that's if it can fit. It'll definitely require $$$ and fabrication skills.

Thanks for the reply.

Are you saying that the engine in my Maxima is a different block than a RWD car? I was under the impression that it was the same engine used in the 300 ZX, which is RWD.

I haven't looked that hard at it, but I thought that one could unbolt the FWD transmission and bolt up a RWD trans.

I have seen RWD transmissions used on some GM FWD 4 cylinder motors. Guess I thought the same could happen here.

It seems simple enough that if in fact it was the same motor it would be the same block only with a transmission for FWD.

Are they different blocks?

I told you I didn't know that much about Nissans.
