I have a 2000 Maxima that I just replaced the rear main seal in and now when I crank it it runs rough and stalls. I can richen it with propane and it runs fine so I know it's lean. I put a noid light on the injectors and they are all firing properly. I have rechecked all of the connectors that I had apart and they are fine. I had been told that sometimes when you remove the trans you may get a bad ground between the engine and bell housing when you reassemble it so I took it back apart and sanded both but with no improvement. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Check your crank sensor by the front of the bell housing. Make sure it is not covered with debris, and that it has a solid connection. Also (not 100% sure of location on 5th gen, but for 4th gen), check to make sure the ground wire coming from the driver side strut tower is connected to the transmission.

We took the ground cable off and cleaned the mating surfaces. I'm going to recheck the crank sensor but would the car even start without a signal from it?

If that checks out, I would look at the MAF.

I tryed a maf off of another car with no difference. That was what it seemed like to me too but I keep coming back to the fact that it ran fine until I removed the transmission. This thing is eating my lunch. Thanks again.
