Now that the Maxima has been out for a while enclosed is an interest review. It appears that Nissan is doing quite will for itself, even in a slow economy. I was glad to see the comparision between the 350Z sales and the Corvette. *cough* *cough*

Here was my response.

In regards to Michael Frank's review of the 2004 Nissan Maxima. I enjoyed your review of the new Maxima and I was surprised by your honesty. Even though the Maxima is the flagship for the Nissan (non Infiniti) line-up, I agree that the V-6 (245 hp) Altima is a far better value for the money. I see Nissan traveling down the same road of mediocrity with the likes of General Motors for their car line-up. Offering a nearly all V-6 (VQ35DE) engine and front wheel drive line up. I think that Nissan needs to get back to its roots and offer cars for the enthusiast in mind. The Maxima should have been converted to a rear wheel drive car with a V-8 (comparable to the Infiniti M-45 and Q-45) at a decent price. I am a Nissan Enthusiast, but I am leery of what the influences of Renault have to offer this maker’s lineup.

For the record, under the “specs” section of your review the engine in the Nissan Maxima is currently a 3.5liter engine. The 2.5liter engine is only offered in the Sentra (SER) and Altima models.

Am I the only one who feels nissan really dropped the ball with the new maximas styling?

Yes, but the new maxima is especially ugly. I really think nissan dropped the ball with the new maxima as far as looks go.

Seeing the vehicle in person vs just pics of it makes ll the diffference.

When I just saw it in pics I was like "ugh", but I saw it in person a few times and it rocks!

A real handsome car inside and out.Fast, roomy, classy 4 door a 7/8ths Q45 in some ways.

Fred..:)

I think the new Maxima is really nice. I'm not big on that front grill and the fwd, but all in all, I think it is a great car for the money.

I don't know I have seen them on the lots and well I just can't say I am impressed. Maybe the design will grow on me.

IMO I like the styling of the 5th gen's better (the ones right before the '04s?). Those are one of the most beautiful cars on the road I think. The new Max, well, I love the skyroof, the power, its pretty sweet looking, but I dont like it all around as well as the older Max's. Even the Alty's, those are just sweet styled. Very clean, easy edges, etc. The redesign of the Sentra's for '04 I dont like either. :/

I don't like the '04's at all. I like the 5th gen like Ben is talkign about, but the 6th gen really doesn't do anything for me. They are wayy too big, a car that big should be rwd and have a v8 at the very least.

The Max would be miles better with a billet grille thus ridding it of that damned bucktooth. I had a girlfriend like that once. Buck-toothed that is.

Yeah I had a sales man tell me they refered to the new sentra as the mini max. It would be fine with a different grill though.

There is an 04 Maxima here that is Black and has the billet grill like my Altima. It looks vary sweet! That is the only thing that needs a change IMO.Of course I didn't like my OEM grill on the 02+ Altima either.Come to think of it I'm not a big fan of any of the factory grill out right now.The 02-03 Spec V has a great front face.

The Maxima suffers from massive torque steer and a funny nose. Hmmmm... a funny nose hindered Infiniti Q45 sales a bit in the first few years too.

But I drove one, and enjoyed it overall. I'd take one over an Accord, maybe a Camry. I disliked the motorcycle-style pod gauges, which felt out of place in an upper-crust midsize sedan. Actually, that bothered me a lot.

Otherwise, cool car. Good price. Funny nose.

Yeah the first years of the q45 did have an ugly nose. Maybe they will improve the max. I can only hope.
