I had my friend who is a mechanic look at my max and said that it needed a water pump! After he installed that it still was over heating ! Now he is telling me that the heads are blown! But the compression test doesn't show any sort of blown gasket or head?!! My question is what else should I look at, oil isn't milky and car still runs with out white smoke! I'm doing it my self cause I feel he didn't really look at it good enough, please throw some other things to check don't want to give up on her yet

Welcome to NICO.

First thing I would check would be the thermostat. I would also pressure test the cooling system. It also wouldn't hurt to remove the radiator fans and run a hose (or compressed air) from the back side of the radiator to flush dirt/debris from the cooling fins.

Here's the FSM section that contains the cooling system. http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Maxima/1997/LC.pdf
