Yeah. 260k. (!!!!)

17 years old. 2nd transmission, 8th or 9th alternator, 2nd fuel pump; all other non-wear items are original. Driven daily (just not by me anymore). Doesn't burn a DROP of oil. The interior still looks great, even the steering wheel. I'd trust it to drive across the country right now.

Best daily driver EVER. Best blend of practicality and fun ever. Beautiful styling, great interior design, fantastic exhaust note (suck it, VQ)...

As far as sedans go, the third-gen Max is a tough act to beat. Or even match.

I'm very surprised you went through more alternators than fuel pumps. Did you change the gauge faces? I dont remember that font in my '90.

SE gauges were black-on-white, GXE are as seen here.

The car CONSUMES alternators. I never could figure out why. Put all-new underbody cladding/splash guards on that side, still kept happening.

I nipped any potential fuel pump issues preemptively by installing a Walbro (no unnecessary variable speed garbage like in the Q).

WOW I can't believe you went through that many alternators either. I am sitting at 223K (sitting because its not being driven right now) and I have yet to replace the alternator once.

Nice.

How many of those miles are yours, or did you buy new?

you may need to replace the main harness. there could be a high voltage junction somewhere. And the VQ is awesome. Lets not bash that motor. I'll have mine well taken care of in 10 years as well.

The font on those gauges looks like the G50's.

Here's to 260k miles!

Oh, I love the VQ. I also think it sounds like crap compared to the VG.

My dad bought it new. He put around 160k on it. I bought it from him in '04 and put another 80-90k on it over 4 years. Then I sold it to my sister, who has put the last ~15k on it over about two years.

With only 260k, I'd expect 3rd, maybe 4th alternator. What are you doing to them?

My wife's 00 Altima has ~113k and we replaced the alt. in it about 15k ago I thnk? But that engine won't last to 260k. She keeps saying she'll have the car till 300k and I laugh.

I am blown away by the number of alternators but am also a little surprised you're on the second trans.

It's an auto. If it was a manual, I'd be right there with you, but if there's any surprise it's that I'm only on the 2nd trans. The RE4F is a monumental POS. Also, in the early 90s, Nissan skimped in the trans cooling department on many models, leading to lots of early transmission failures. My new trans has a nice, big trans cooler that should make a big difference.

Most likely, it's due to the poor quality of the reman units I've been using. I've only paid for one alternator, as I bought a warrantied remanufactured alternator from Autozone after the initial failure. Every single one has been covered by the warranty, only requiring labor (which IS a PITA).

Oh ok, I gotcha.

You need a buddy to do that stuff for ya. Float_6969 put mine in for me. I think I paid him in beer, but I don't remember...I put the new plug wires in myself though

I wonder if brand new would have made a difference. i think the PITA labor would have enticed to try one out.
