Will the earlier 90's VG30DE 5 spd work on a later VQ30DE? If so is there anything needed for it?

you might call the check to see if the part numbers are the same from the dealership or see if they mount the same. also, you might have to check into the cv axles

It's for a custom project, I'm building a mid engine RWD rail car, so Axles don't matter, nor do mounts, I am just wondering if the will bolt together and work.

i retract my previous statement then sir. i will look to see what i can find for you.

now my question is this, are you using the FWD setup because its a mid engine setup? the reason i ask this is because theres the RWD VG30DE from the 300's and then the FWD VG30DE from the maximas. not sure how much different they are in the sense of trans mounting, but they are a little different.

WHy not use a i30 5sp transmission? It has lsd also and will bolt right up.
