My Maxima has been having a lot of trouble with starting from a stop, hesitating and being sluggish before finally moving. It's an automatic, but putting it into 1 has helped, and then shifting to 2 then D, but sometimes that doesn't help. I am no mechanic, and this is annoying. Any suggestions? I have had regular maitenance done to it, and I wonder if this is a fuel filter issue, but I would probably be wrong as that is too easy. I tried a Nissan dealership and they couldn't repeat the situation, and they couldn't get a read from the engine either. Thanks!Christine

Is the engine fully warmed up when this happens?

Is the engine idling ok when in park? Is the idle ok in drive?

How does it run on the highway?

it happens after driving for a bit, sometime i can feel the hesitation while driving, including on the highway, but the worst is starting to go from a stop. It idles fine.

My 95 Max had a slight miss only after it warmed up the motor. I found a bad coil pack on the rear cyl. Replaced it and all was well. You could only feel it when it was under a load, no miss at idle or flat road driving. Drove me crazy for a long time.

It's starting to idle poorly...dropping down to 0-RPMS. It doesn't stall out completely, then will start to go, but it takes a few seconds to go while the person behind me starts honking nonstop. any answers help to diagnose this as I am going to take it back to my mechanic tonight for him to check out.

Hey they’re...

I couldn't help but to notice this post. It reminds me why I signed up on these Forums. I also have a 95 Max and have had experienced similar circumstances when going from a red light or even going at all after the temp gauge is at 1/2 with the jerk behind me.

And with all due respect... Give him the finger!

When I took it in they found out that my MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor) was messed up. (Why the car had problems moving after temp warmed up at red lights or hesitating to move at all). Once they replaced it I have not had an issue since. Its pricy, you can get a used one for around $300 but that's being optimistic.

Is your CEL on? The codes from a diagnostic can yield results that may lead you in the right direction.

Check the egr valve may be clogged. My girl had the same problem with her dodge. It threw no codes but it was so clogged I couldn't understand how the car even started.

Same thing with mine. When the car is cold there is no hesitation but soon after it warms up it hesitates and is very annoying. Thats why I am thinking of changing all vacuum hoses and spark plugs. I do not know what the problem is.
