I have a 2005 maxima sl. The engine is very hot but the gauge inside the car is normal. The car is not overheating. When you turn the car off and try to turn it back on it clicks and won't start until you open the hood and let it cool. Does anybody know the problem. I have an appointment with the dealer next week.Janet

my eng gets very hot too without overheating but i think it's because it's all aluminum and very cramped under the hood. i don't have a problem starting though - sorry.

That does sound kind of odd. Maybe you could post something in our Nissan online mechanic Forum and see if they can be of any assistance.

Maybe it's your thermostat or your coolent try and flush the cooling system get some new fulid in there. Most coolents only last 30k miles before it needs replacement.

I had a very hot engine and my 2005 maxima wouldnt start. I brought it to Sears and said my battery was bad and the engine was in good working order. I think the post that said it was tight under the hood was probably why i thought it was the reason for it being so hot. Thanks for all your advice.Janet
